View Full Version : Camaro fender emblems
vman67 Dec 31st, 02, 07:46 AM I have a new set of "Camaro" emblems for the front fenders. I can see the three holes in which the part goes on but there is no bolts or such to secure the bad boys. IS there a special adhesive I need to use to secure them. What on my factory manual
zuma Dec 31st, 02, 02:56 PM vman67 Welcome to the site, There are supposed to be fastened on by little speed nuts that will self-thread as you install them.(thats the correct way) The only drawback is you have to get behind the fender to attach them, another way is use 3m exterior double stick tape to hold them on, once applied, it is very diffcult to remove. lastly is to use barrel-bolts, you can get these from most autoparts stores or camaro parts houses, just put them in the hole and then push the emblems on. I have used all three ways and they all work well. Hope this helps...Mike
Unreal Jan 1st, 03, 04:55 AM The easy way is to use adhesive tape or barrel nuts. Problem is the emblem sticks out a little from the fender.
Best way is to take it loosen the fender and put the speed nuts on from the back. It's a PITA, but I think worth it. Took me about a half hour. I used dum-dum on mine, not to weatherseal it, as you would on the decklid emblem, but to help hold the nut while I got it started.
A side bonus is that I was able to "justify" a set of the new Craftsman ratchet box wrench set http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
Unreal Jan 1st, 03, 07:26 AM "take it loosen the fender" .......I gotta do a better job of proofreading!
zuma Jan 1st, 03, 12:29 PM Unreal is correct, That is the correct way to do it, Try to start the speed nuts on the studs if new before installing that way they will stay on the stud better. I would not use Dum Dum to seal the hole try using a faucet seat washer, then a flat washer, then the nut, makes a good seal...Mike
Unreal Jan 2nd, 03, 02:53 AM Zuma,
Just curious why you would not use dum-dum. That's the way the General did it in areas like quarter louvers, that need to be weathersealed.
Have you seen problems caused by the dum-dum?
zuma Jan 2nd, 03, 02:57 PM Unreal, dum dum works fine in some areas where the hole is tight and not much leakage will got through, but the factory holes for the louvers are quite large and dum dum might not seal as well IMO. I learned of this trick with the faucet seat washer and flat washer from an old school body man back in the day. It seals around the stud and covers and oversized hole to provide a nice weatherproof seal. Of course there is always more than one way to do anything..just my .02 Mike (just make sure you use a plyable, not hard type faucet washer)
Unreal Jan 2nd, 03, 05:33 PM Zuma, as you might have seen in another post KevinW has some NOS speed nuts filled with dum dum. I also have some small filled ones for emblems. That's what I used on the fender emblems. I also removed a quarter louver from a junk yard car, that had the dum-dum filled speed nuts. I understand your point about the holes and the rubber washers. I will use the washers on my spoiler and cheat with a thin ring of dum-dum. Thanks for your comments.
zuma Jan 2nd, 03, 06:02 PM No prob Unreal both ways should work fine, good luck with your resto...Mike
