If you were in High school and had a 68' Camaro with nice body & paint Would you drive it to High School?
This is the problem I'm having, me and "Kokamo" from Team Camaro got the car running well and cooling well and now i'm thinking of driving it to school the problem is jealous people, they could key it or anyone could just come up to it and sit on it or what not...
Should I take my chances and just do it?
I know I wouldn't get door dinged cause it's gonna be in the teachers parking lot and I will park it sideways so no one can park next to it.
What's your opinion should I do it? Out side of school people from school are pretty good about it, they respect it for what it is, but theres always that select few...

If I was actually in high school....hell yes :D

.... the problem is jealous people, they could key it or anyone could just come up to it and sit on it or what not...

Who in the world would be jealous enough to key it?

I know I wouldn't get door dinged cause it's gonna be in the teachers parking lot and I will park it sideways so no one can park next to it.

Um....never mind my last comment about who would want to key it :D

The important thing is that you keep and take car of the car. Stuff will happen over the years, but hey, you bought the car to drive it, right? There's your answer.

how nice of a body and paint? if it's a collector vehicle, it should have the appropriate insurance, and should never be left in a school parking lot unattended. if it's just a nice driver, i say drive the heck out of it, and have some touch-up paint at the ready!

I drive my '67 to the ASU parking lot just about every day. It doesn't have all that great of paint though. (Butternut Yellow Maaco job) I haven't seen any new dents or scratches on it, but I do try to park in less busy areas or spots where there'll only be a car on one side.

I drove my 67 to school everyday ( That was in the 80's though..:))

My kid wanted to take my current 68 to high school and I had the same fears. I called the school and talked to the faclities guy and he told me where to park so the lot camera's would have a good view. We didnt have any problems other than the crowd gathered around at the end of the day, but the peace of mind did help.

My daughter took her 69, that we restored, to high school everyday for 3 yrs . The door dings it got were usually for the shopping center parking lot. We found out that the boys at school were more protective of the car than she was. Its a car ,their made to drive and enjoy . If something happens to it we can always fix it agian !

I did drive my first 68 to High school in the mid to late 80's. Driver quality. Lots of jealous kids, especially the older ones. I had a school permit and drove it to school when I was 15. So as a freshman it did get keyed across the passenger door by a senior, so I heard. I had no proof though. I wouldn't drive it myself. Keep it for "dates" and maybe get togethers with friends after school and on weekends. Besides, it gives that much more "mystique" to the car. If you haven't figured it out yet, women always want what they can't have. Let's just say that car helped me out in the "dating" department, not that i needed it of course!

Guess it depends on a lot of things... the area? how insured? the condition of your car? the model? how much time you got into it? the parking lot? the students? etc. Had a vert, '67 back in the 80's...came out to the teacher's lot...some one had stolen the driveshaft!... just the driveshaft! When I went to get another? Had to have one built up... the insurance company was not pleased with the final bill at the time...so, your choice, but it's going to be a toss.

I wouldn't, unless you don't care that much about the car. Something is bound to happen to it, why put it in a risky environment if you don't have to?

My friend drove her 69 to high school everyday with no issues back in 97-99. She was voted "Coolest Car" in our Senior Year Book. It was a plain jane White w/ Dark Blue Z Stripes, she still has it waiting for her when she's done with college to fix it up. :beers:

i say you whould drive it and have fun. since you will be inside the school all day and people will know your schedule, i would recommend that you get a very good alarm or disabling device of some sort. and i dont mean a device to disable the would be thief like flame throwers from the bottom or saws coming from the rocker panel to cut of the legs. get something so you car is going to take a lot of doing to get stolen if someone gets tempted.

AZ IN THE HOUSE!! You have a 67? I'd be afraid of it being stolen. I get worried if I have to take my 4th gen out and park it somewhere I can't keep an eye on it.

If it were still the early 80's Id say take it to school (we all did ), but these days i dont think id take a chance.
The first gens are way too easy hot wire and drive off in and are not easily replaced..

I drove my 68 SS/RS 396 to school, but then again it was the early 80's and there were still a few muscle cars in the parking lot. Today, I dont think I would.

Well I took the plunge and drove it Wednesday of this week.
Everything went fine, at the end of the day there was a crowd of about 15 people standing around it, my friend austin 6'4" 220+ had my back as well as a few other of my friends.
I will drive it maybe once a week, this one kid with a "fast" 79' camaro talked some shat about it but got owned by everyone else about it. I dont have any problems with people or make fun of their cars but its hard not too when they think their 17 second plus Camaro is a reason to talk crap about mine....
I guess i will have to own up on them all when we do the high school drag race at the track. I should be in the low 13's if not 12's after I purchase the afr's, cam, intake, suspension......

I don't like leaving mine in a lot full of cars costing 10x as much...lol

I will say... did you buy it to put in a glass case or have fun with it ?

Glad to see you're enjoying your ride

LOL. I had to make a stop at Wally World yesterday, and I parked in the back in a secluded area next to the tire center. The "mechanics" (lol) all stopped what they were doing and gathered, staring at my car. As I was walking toward the building, two young guys (customers) walked toward me holding up their cells...and asked, "Do you mind if we take a picture...you know the deal". It was pretty funny, but cool. As if they think I have people wanting to take pics of my car every time I take it out :D But of all the compliments and comments I've gotten, I think the implied "You know that's a bad-a$$ car" yesterday, was probably the best yet.

Drive that car Ace!
