Has this happened to anyone? I was working on my car (less than 30 minutes) and noticed that there was a black spot on the dome light cover on my '69. I felt the cover and it was warm and when I removed the white plastic cover I noticed that the plastic assmebly that holds the bulb was melted.

I know the bulb emits heat but I've worked on other cars with no issues. The cover and base is thin so I guess I should disconnect batt as general rule or pop fuse?

Try a lower wattage bulb

If u use the factory hand book recomended light buld it gets hot but doesnt melt either orginal or replacement units
The draw back is the light is not very good in practical terms

I use an LED bulb now.
