View Full Version : What is the difference between Omni AU MBC & MTK 68CMRO Feb 5th, 08, 01:18 PM I'll be buying PPG Omni AU paint very soon and not sure of the difference between the MBC and the MTK. Can someone explain the two for me? Hatman Feb 5th, 08, 06:14 PM MBC is abase coat clear coat MTK is a single stage AutoRodTechnologies Feb 5th, 08, 06:49 PM If my memory serves me corretly ther was also "mtk ae" and "mtk au" ae was the enamel and au was urethane. i used ae once, wouldn't recommend it for the tractor. sevt_chevelle Feb 5th, 08, 07:54 PM If my memory serves me corretly ther was also "mtk ae" and "mtk au" ae was the enamel and au was urethane. i used ae once, wouldn't recommend it for the tractor. After using both the AE and AU I wouldnt suggest either. Better off with the MBC, but a GOOD idea is to check the price difference because most of the time since MBC takes more coats to cover you end up buying more paint and have spent equal or more money on a lesser product...Eric AutoRodTechnologies Feb 5th, 08, 09:10 PM I know alot of shops go the cheap route and then end up getting twice the product, makes no sense to me, by doing that there is more of a chance of solvent popping and contraction due to so much material useage and excessive solvents. 68CMRO Feb 6th, 08, 12:11 AM Ok so I need to at least get the MBC since I'll be doing a bc/cc. So should I instead just spend the extra money and buy the better PPG line of paint? This will be a complete paint job and not spot repair. I've seen mixed reviews on the Omni line. AutoRodTechnologies Feb 6th, 08, 06:58 AM I would stay away from the omni if it we're me, remember this is a one time purchase for your project, if you have to wait a few extra weeks to pay for it, it will be worth it.. 68IslTeal Feb 6th, 08, 09:53 AM PPG Omni = theire budget line of paint Coverage is poor Does not seem to hold up very well to weather Seems to have a bad rep in the durability/longevity areas. PPG Omni is just a cheap paint line, they all make them. I would check out DuPont Nason if your looking at a budget paint. But as said b4, wait till you can afford the paint then go from there. Yeah the omni can be shot and will look good most likely, but thats for a short time. yenkomike Feb 6th, 08, 03:18 PM i agree. the omni is a lesser paint .it works ok when spraying black and some solid colors but a far cry from dbu base . i think the omni is ment for tinted primer/sealer base. i have sprayed it many times and the coverage is about 30 percent less per gallon. imo. you really dont save money using it . CDJr Feb 6th, 08, 11:50 PM Ya I agree. Omni clear is very good for the money but their bases are poor. Id use DBC and Omni clear  AutoRodTechnologies Feb 7th, 08, 07:21 AM Omni clear would be worse than using their base in my opinion. and trust me i have used a lot of omni clear when i started out, the gloss holdout is horrible. there just isn't any uv protection, even for the price range you can find a lot of clears that will blow the omni away. maybe the shopline is a little better, i don't know on that, but the omni.. stay away. PLEASE! CDJr Feb 7th, 08, 08:34 AM Really Chad? Ive used it several times and liked it. What others would be better for the money? Oh and BTW, the Shopline seemed the same to me also ;) yenkomike Feb 8th, 08, 12:43 PM i used omni clear on lots of cars and it worked but i like transtar 6841 a lot better and the price is close . the omni i like to let set up as long as i could so i didnt have to wheel it twice . it fades dull for about 6 months . |
