: To Change Color Or Not To Change Color

Since everyone here has been so helpful, I'm going to ask everyone's opinion on the final process of restoring my '69 LM-1 Camaro.

The car is original down to the nuts and bolts, with lots of options, and is an RS. The original trimtag color is #59, Frost Green, with a dark green interior. However, I've been going back and forth about painting it black and changing the interior to black as well. This green is by far not my favorite color, however, the car is original and as near 100% matching # as you can find.

There's a lot of professional advice on Team Camaro and I hope to get some good feedback as to whether to change it to black with white hockey stripes (my favorite) or leave it original, which is #59 Frost Green with black hockey stripes and black vinyl top.

Once again, thanks Team Camaro.

If your absolutely restoring it to factory original; I vote for keeping it factory colors, but you need to be happy with your car.

Here's a pic of Z on Ebay with your combo (although the Frost green seems just a touch dark):

Personally I like the combo.

You just got to be objectively subjective about it... or is it subjectively objective...? Ah, just narrow it down to two colours and make a toss. :)

I was at the same delima with my code 72 B car,I wanted Cortez Silver code 69 but went with factory Hugger Orange with Black Vinyl, I am glad I did it now to match tag.........

Frost Green , Code 59 , 7.2% of 1969 Camaro's painted

I love that color:yes:,car will be worth more matching tag:thumbsup:,just my opinion, you the one who has to be happy:D....But Frost Green With Black Vinyl that would be a sweet match !!!

My 69 was orginally frost green, I was not crazy about the color either. I didn't want to change the interior from the dark green (on a budget) so I chose Fathom green. I have no regrets, I love the color, you don't see too many fathom cars at show either so it stands out a little too. Because it didn't have a matching motor, it made my decision easier. check it out;

I am selling a car and everyone wants it as original as sin. If you want to keep it paint it.

Rare does not necessarily equate to valuable. I think you need to be happy with the color if you are keeping it. If you think you'll be selling, do some research to see what Frost Green cars are going for. You may find that you could make more selling with a more desirable color even if it is "wrong".

That's just my opinion and I hope it makes sense.

Most people think of frost green in the faded out condition they found it. Find some pics of Restored Frost Green, and you will be surprised!!

My Yenko Tribute was originally Frost Green with light green interior. I switched to Fathom Green as it was one of the 6 Yenko colors. I saw a real one with black Yenko stripes and fell in love. I took 50 pics of it, since I thought I hated green. Every time I started to second guess my decision, I'd pull the pics out and reassure myself.

Value is one thing, but if you plan to keep your car, you have to be happy with the color, too. I vote Frost Green.

Im sort of in the same boat. I have a Tuxedo black 396SS that Im thinking of chopping up and making a Pro Touring car. Question is do I sell restore it to factory or do it the way I want it and make a pro touring car?

If it's for resale then the original color is best. If it's a keeper then paint it whatever color suits your fancy.

my lm1 is blue with silver z stripes i bought it because i like the color combo but i also did not know a whole lot about restoration or matching # cars. now knowing what i learned over the last few years if it had a matching# motor in the car i would spend the 10k or more to paint it back to daytona yellow. keep it original is my vote

if the car is as original as you say, do not think another second. PAINT IT THE ORIGINAL COLORS, which will look great. dont forget what nobody wanted in 69 is rare today.

I'm beginning to like the less common colors more and more. To tell you the truth, I'm getting a little bored :boring: with all of the blue, red, black and even orange cars at all of the shows. My 67 RS/SS conv was painted black years ago, and if I keep it and go through it again, I will no doubt put it back to its original Granada Gold. You just don't see that many owners who havee the cajones to go back to the off-beat colors, and besides, black is an absolute nightmare to keep looking good (can you say, dust magnet and swirl mark collector? :p)

My 69 RS/SS conv is Garnet Red, and if I had my druthers I would take Rally Green.

Stay original! JMHO :D

The Frost Green Z that was posted in the link earlier is just absolutely stunning! Someone did a sweet job on that one! And not a single bid. I guess everyone wants an orange one! :boring:

But hey, it's your baby! Have fun with it!

Although i like frost green, paint the car how you will enjoy it. You can always repaint it back to frost green in the future. I agree with UNREAL too, fresh frost green paint is not as bad as you think.

Keep the color! Trust me, you will like the new color at first but you will regret any decision to change it later on. It will not be cheap to change it back later.

I wouldn't say it Frost Green was all that rare a color. According to CRG, it was the 5th most popular color in 69. There's a reason Camaros were available in 3 different greens.....something about sales!! :)

Oh, and Grenada Gold was the 5th most popular color in 67!

Hey Unreal, Frost Green and Granada Gold may have been fairly common back then, but you don't see them much now - probably because so many of them had the colors changed to red, blue, black, etc. :)

Hey, like everyone said, if you're not gonna sell, paint it whatever color tickles you - red, green blue, purple, pink... on second thought, not pink! :p

I wonder how much the value of my big block car would drop if I switched from Garnet Red to Rally Green? ;)
