: Stripped leaf spring shackle bolt....

I was replacing my leaf springs the other day on my 69 and when I was torquing down the one shackle bolt and it just continued to turn. I had the torque wrench set at 45 ft lbs as specs call from 35-55 ft lbs. I backed the nut off and noticed the threads were completely stripped on the bolt as well as the nut (probably chinese made). I tried calling several different camaro places and no one sells a replacement carriage bolt for the shackles. You can only buy a new shackle kit if you just need the bolt. I believe the specs of the bolt is 7/16"x20x5."

Does any one have an extra one laying around (with the nut) or where I can just find a replacement bolt and nut? I hate to buy an entire shackle kit for one bolt and nut.

BTW, it you were wondering, the shackle kit I have on the car now was purchased two years ago so they are fairly new. I did check at local hardware stores and the only carriage bolts that are close are either 3/8" or 1/2."

Looks like you're in Cleveland? I'm sure they have a fastener supply store in your area, which would have that.

Here's one -

Dave, a buddy was telling me about a local store that dealt with just fasteners in Cleveland. I'll have to give them a call.

Geneo, thanks for taking the time to do that. If I find something at the store I'll let you know so you won't have to dig very hard.

Thanks again to the both of you for helping me out.
