View Full Version : Can't sleep

It's after midnight. I should have been asleep hours ago......it might as well be noon sitting next to a fast moving freight train.
Since it is after midnight and technically my birthday, I ordered all the parts to completely re-do my fuel system.
Basically a sewer line from the tank to a pump that will deliver enough fuel to power a 2,500hp motor at 10,000rpm (might be a bit of an exaggeration).
Man, I love the internet.....

I'm up too! But it's 11pm here...

We had a John Deere tractor catch fire tonight, quite a blaze! Probably an electrical short caused it. The plastic fuel tank blew just after I got there and then two of the tires! I'm REALLY glad the tank blew after I shot off the two fire extinguishers and not DURING! The handheld extinguishers each lasted about 10 seconds and did NOTHING to put out the fire.

I'm kinda keyed up but going to try and get some sleep now.

Chris I hear ya. Haven't slept much the past week. Too much going on here. During Monday's memorial service the pastor mentioned the book we'd discussed a couple years ago. I have it, but after this week I really need to find some time to read it.

Happy Birthday by the way!! That'll be a great gift and not much of an exaggeration either! I know you'd spin it to 10K if you could. Just don't follow my lead and spin it until you hear the old "death rattle". Told my wife today that the Camaro was history, but she says we aren't selling it. I think she sees the pattern, buy it blow it up, let it sit until you get tired of looking at it and then move it out.

Have a great birthday! Keep me updated on your progress with the Camaro. If I keep mine and get it back on the road we'll have to get together with them.

I love Ambien!
I used it in Iraq recently to get away from the stress of coworkers keeping my up, the helicopters and airplanes flying at all hours of the night, and the machine guns being used at all hours of the night at a training base just across the road. It knocked the edge off so that I could fall asleep. Haven't needed it since.

Just the opposite here. Fell asleep on the sofa around 9:30 last night. Woke up 4 a.m. this morning. Spent the last hour shoveling some snow at the end of my driveway by star light. Figured I'd better give the neighbors a break and leave the snowblower in the garage!

Happy birfthday!!

You guys are all just too good. All of your replied made me smile.

Everett, I actually have THREE identicle red-head daughters. The triplets have caused a sleepless night or two, but WOW what a joy.

SY1....(you have email) Don't you dare sell that beautiful red Camaro. Put together a motor (I do not care what size). Slap a SY1 intake on there and buzz it to the moon!!! :) A nice, high winding 283 or 302 or 327 perhaps......

Davidpozzi, Around here..nothing runs like a Deere...HA! I am sorry. I could not help myself. I hope you were not harmed in the blaze or suffered too much financial loss. Those things are not cheap!

Thanks for all the replies guys (all of you). In a few weeks the new high winding, ethanol burning, 427 will be fired up. I will report to all after my first tire shredding, rev-limiter bouncing, gear grabbin maiden voyage. :)

Thanks guys! I have had a great day. As luck would have it, I was off today and was able to visit with many old friends that I have not seen in a while. Also worked in the garage for a while; Getting the Camaro ready for the new motor. Thanks for the replies. I hope you are all having a good Wednesday.

Have a look!
Under the steps is where the plastic fuel tank was. It blew up with a huge BANG, then a lot more fire! I got a couple of pics with my camera phone, but it just shows a large fireball, can't make out the tractor at all! It melted the alternator off plus part of the aluminum timing cover in front of the fuel injection pump, left front of the engine. The fire dept pulled the tires off the rims on the rear due to them smoldering. It's suprising how much plastic was on this tractor, the dash, fenders, some of the grille, the canopy and lot more.
Quite a mess. A new one costs $70,000. We hope to find a used one for 15-20K.

David,
Hope I didn't jinx you. I'm the guy who's helping out my father in law start up the 240Z after sitting for 20 years. Your advice was to have a fire extinguisher handy. You told me this maybe 4 days ago? Wow. You better beleive I'm bringing a couple extinguishers for back-up when I'm over there this weekend. You didn't have to go that far to prove your point.

Spooky isn't it?

I was taught by an uncle that was very safety minded. It's better to pre-plan for safety than be caught with your pants down...

I saw on tv reciently a story about some circle track racers, it was on the Speed Channel. They had their garage workshop burn down, it had barrels of race car fuel inside and they were welding on the car and ... Poof! no more garage OR race car!

Now David -that was a fire!
