I was thinking about adding a little something to the car when it's done. I'm considering a third brake light added to the spoiler, like one from a new Vette. Has anyone done this or see any problems? I would buy repop parts, as I wouldn't want to cut up my originals.

I've thought about it also. I bought a new spoiler for mine and considered trying it on the old one to see how it works. But I would try and smooth it in around the edges with body filler then put a coat of color over it, clear and buff it. I saw this done on a truck, you could'nt see the light until pushed on the brake pedal, then the light shown thru. Maybe a winter project should be considered.

That crossed my mind once also. But the more I thought about it, the spoiler isn’t that much higher than the tail lights on the vert. And if someone is tailgating me so close that they can’t see my tail lights I’m gonna be throwing things at them… A strawberry milkshake in the windshield tends to surprise the heck out of some people…
Personally I’d rather have a paintball gun mounted back there…

I've thought about this at great length also. I considered useing an LED light from a Caddy which goes alot futher across the spoiler. I figured that I would have to cut a hole just under the size of the light and using this type of light sandwich the spoiler inbetween the light and some custom made clamps/brackets.
Still looking into finding a suitable light at a resonable $$$$ figure.

I did one in my sons 53 chevy truck a while back. It is a bow tie. It took many hours but it was well worth it. He gets more questions and compliments about it. Makes me feel good. I have often thought about doing the same thing in my 69 vert, but I havent found a sutible place.

Some modern cars with a thin strip across the rear of the vehicle. I've thought of getting one and placing at teh bottom of the rear window, inside on the package shelf.

Did one on a 68 Firebird a few years ago. Got a light from Gearbox Granny's (then) took it apart, spent lots of time fitting it in the rear spoiler and cutting. When the fit was right, used Duraglass to mold the actual light into the spoiler and the lens just screwed in. Ran the wireing and all turned out nice. We put a Camaro spoiler on the Firebird as that is what the owner wanted. THe car was painted red so the light wasn't that noticable until you hit the brakes. It took time to fit it properly but the result was worth it, and he paid for every minute.

My Honda Accord has a nice one on the rear spoiler. I have always thought it would be nice grafted into a first gen spoiler.
I do like the idea of a smaller GM bow tie emblem.

Thanks for the replys all. I realise that it wouldn't be much higher than the stock lights, and probably don't even need it. I just thought it would be something a little different. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this and that some of you have done this with good results. I thought a Vette one, but I like Tony's idea of the Caddy LED. I was wanting something to go across most of the length of the spoiler. I also like Bob's Bowtie. Maybe if I wasn't getting rid of my 62 p\u I would do that. Right now there's no shortage of "must do's" before I get to the decision. At least I can plan for it.

Id love to see one at night showing how bright it is and what it looks like. Sounds like a neat idea for that 'special' touch if thats what someone is looking for. smile.gif
