How do you put the staples in that hold onthe splash shields to the inner fender?

Is there a special tool? Do you use a hammer?

Thanks in advance!

I used a hammer on mine, but to ease the installation and to keep from pulling all of my hair out, I did go over all the small holes with a small drill bit. I am sorry but I don't remember the size. It was large enough to offer a snug installation of the staples.

I did what "zzre" recomends, then when the staple was in place I used a pair of joint pliers (those that everybody has in it's tool box) and used them to bend both legs of the staple at the same time. This by using the pliers nose directly over the staple legs. Then use a small hammer to finish the bending process. I was alone at the time but if you have someone who can hold the staple in place while you use the pliers it will be easier. Good luck.

My kit staples were too small for my holes, (base not wide enough) so I just made new larger ones out of 18 guage Galv. wire that I got at a hardware store. After I pushed them through I just cut them and bent them over to form the staple.

JUST PICK UP A NEW SPLASH SHIELD KIT. MY OLD ONES WERE RIVITED WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. IN ORDER TO AVOID KILLING MYSELF WITH STAPLES I THINK IM GOING TO RIVET THE NEW ONES ON AND THEN PAINT THE RIVETS BLACK.

I got the splash shield kit from Ground Up which included the staples. As I remember, I had to drill the holes in the inner fender just a skosh larger to get the staples to fit through. At the same time I was drilling the holes larger, I also drilled through the splash shield to create holes for the staples. Once the staples were in place for all the holes and the fit was right, I took pliers and bent the legs over securely.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. I think I will be drilling holes for the staples too.

I just re-bent all of my new staples to match the existing hole width with two needle nose pliers. The staples are pretty pliable.
