I have a 1995 V6 3.4L Camaro. Recently when I sit in park with the engine on after about 3-5 min my service engine light comes on...I have noticed that when this happens my temperature gauge starts to get up pretty high(not in the orange yet but close). My fan does seem to kick on but it seems to sound strange and seems like it should kick on at a lower temperature. Also, sometimes it smells like something is burning from under the hood after this happens. I tried to take it to autozone and have them plug it in and see but it seems like they don't have the correct fitting or computer for the 95's. Any suggestions? Thanks

The best thing you can do is track down another Auto Zone or some other auto parts store to find a code reader. If it comes down to it, take it to a shop and have them tell you what the error codes are. My best guess is you either need to replace your thermostat and your coolant sensor is throwin "check engine" because its too hot, or you might have burn off at the mass air flow sensor thats making the temp around the sensor way too high. How are all of your fluid levels? Spark plugs & wires? Air filter? Rust in your coolant? Lastly, have you ever replaced the water pump and could the noise be coming from that? If so, the bearing might be wearing out and its not moving the coolant like it should and should be replaced.

95 is non obd connector. try this site out to get codes by yourself by using a paper clip.
