I have a '67 RSSS-350 w/PG, not totally orig, but mostly correct. I'm gathering "period correct" bits to replace. Intake, heads, carb, etc.
It has a "Jasper" motor from a '72 Chev.
I know what "date range" it would have had based on Mfg date.
Is there any way to tell what engine and Trans VIN it had originally?
Thanks for any advice, even if you point me to another site/source to read.

this site will help you out on vin decoding. http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml

Yep. Been there. Thanks. 's a great site..as is this one!
I guess all I can do is find something that's "period correct" and give up any hope of finding the original parts.
I found a "correct" intake and heads and am looking for a carb and the oil filler tube.
The block is next but since I don't have a build sheet, I'm not sure how I would get the original numbers.
Ultimately, period correct is what we want anyway. (wife's car) ;)
Thanks for the input!!!

There is only one original engine and that has your partial vin # on it. If you can't find that, you can only get something that's dated close to the original. You can get a 67 350, the right block casting # and the right parts, but that's as close as you can get. If you don't know when the engine was assembled, I guess the closest you can get is by your body build date and go back a ways from there.
