: SS Hood Clearance Question

As I install the front sheet metal on my 67 I keep sighting across the fenders to see if the hood (standard) is going to clear the air cleaner lid. Looks real close....

I've got a 383 with a performer RPM manifold, Holley 4150, and a low profile GM air cleaner base, 3" filter, and GM lid.

As I'm planning on making mine an SS clone, my question is, does the SS hood provide a little more clearance than the flat hood as I understand there is a little rise before the hood ornaments?

With the bracing, I'm not sure if there is any clearance added. However, I was able to fit a 4" K&N on a Performer RPM with a drop base and have no clearance problems with an SS hood..

Mark, the SS hood does have a little bit of a rise in that area, and it might be enough to help you out. I just did some measuring on mine the other day trying to figure out if my old air cleaner was gonna work on my new Edelbrock carb with a spacer.

I also have a performer RPM manifold on my 350. I measured my old setup (Holley carb + drop base air cleaner) and I got 6-1/2" from the top of the manifold to the wing nut on top of the air cleaner. I swapped to an Edelbrock performer carb, 1" spacer on top, and the same air cleaner. This sat a little bit higher (didn't measure, but I'd say less than an inch taller), but my SS hood still cleared it with room to spare. Hope that helps.

With a Victor jr. + 1" spacer and 3" K&N drop base filter there is almost an inch to spare with an SS hood. Yours should fit without a hitch.
