Will these tire and wheel sizes rub on my 69?

235/50/17 (front) 4.50" backspacing
275/50/17 (back) 5.00" backspacing

If anyone happens to have a pic of their car with these sizes that would be quite helpful as well.

thanks!

I would say they would not rub. I have the exact rim sizes (17's) and backspacing. The front are 8 inches and the rear is 9 inches and my tires are 235/45/17 and the rear 275/40/17. Check out my link to see how they fit. I have to lower my car now, does not look quite right.

It seems like we constantly answer this type of question. This is what I posted yesterday to a similar question: "Lots of '69s have 275s on 9.5 with 5.5 backspace wheels but.............All these cars are a little different and what works on one may not work on another. You can also mix and match with wheel and tire sizes (like if a 275 doesn't work on a 9.5 wheel it may work with a 9 wide wheel. If the car has repo 1/4s on it they seem to have a little more room than stock 1/4s. You can roll the lips and pound in the inner wheel wells to gain clearence. Do a search this has been discussed over and over. While we can all give you examples of what has been proven to work on cars other than yours it doesn't guarantee it will work on yours. There are people here who have gotten as big as 295s on 10s to work but there are also people that have had to drop down to 255s on 9.5s because the 275s rubbed too bad. The point of all this you need to measure your car or test fit something close before you buy based on what we've told you." I'm not trying to be rude or a smart a$$ but your combo MAY work. As I'm sure you realize you are going with taller tires than what most everybody else is using - so the car - original sheet metal - ride height - disc brakes - ect as well as both sides having equeal room all come into play. That's some of what makes answering these questions tricky. It would be great if all these cars had the same amount of room amd all tire brands made the specified tire size the same size but that is just not the case. Then it comes down to as I said before - if there is rubbing do you want to make "adjustments" like rolling lips - pounding inner fenders - changing fender bolts to button heads. Again my intention is not to insult you or anyone else for that matter but when you get to max sizes you need to check your car. The last thing in the world I or anybody else wants to do is tell you something is going to work and after you spend your money it doesn't. Try to test fit - if not measure carefully - both sides. Good luck.

Jack,

I hear ya loud and clear. I know that many times the same question is answered over and over, but this isn't the same question as past questions....

I did search for threads with the same tire/wheel combo but was unsuccessful in finding what I was looking for. Also, the post was a two part question...I was looking for pictures as well. You might have found a thread dealing with the same combo but using the time I had to search, I was not able to find such a thing.

I do appreciate you input. I will try looking up techniques on measuring to help ensure i don't blow $1000 + on an incorrect wheel/tire combo. A brief detail you had mentioned above concerns me as well. My car has all drum brakes but it seems as though it definitely depends on whether or not one has drum or disc??

Well, once again, I will be reading before purchasing.

thanks.

Please I was not trying to offend you or scold you I just don't want you to buy something that doesn't fit. Yes you are right some disc brake kits push the wheels further out. So that's another reason to be carefull. The tires you picked are tall and depending on ride height that could lead to another area of concern. Here's a link that may give you some help measuring. http://chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/72978/

no no...i know you weren't trying to. I really do appreciate the feedback.

They guy who owned the my car before me had 195/75/15x6 (front) and 275/60/15x a lot (back). The car sits quite low right now. The oil pan is about 3.5 inches from the ground which makes me nervous. I know the tire sizes are a bit on the larger side but I want to make sure it will be no closer to the ground. It has to hold up a 454 big block and whoever I plan to scare the hell out of when I finish it. :)
