View Full Version : Wife wants me to trade off Z11!
crustyz11 Feb 11th, 08, 12:04 AM So my "barn find" Z11 is a little rough, i don't mind. My wife thinks we should trade it for a "more complete" driver-quality 1969 camaro. She thinks because it's kinda rare that we should be able to trade it straight-up for an "almost done plain-jane car". What do you guys (and girls) think?:noway: You can see pictures of my car in the 1969 showroom.
Dayton68Z28 Feb 11th, 08, 12:07 AM Trade the wife in for a younger model.
Summit Feb 11th, 08, 12:40 AM Trade the wife in for a younger model.
Thats what I need, a Newer Model with Air Bags....;)
crustyz11 Feb 11th, 08, 12:45 AM I forgot to mention she's a Mopar fan, so she's obviously not right in the head!! I really have given it some thought though, cuz the way things are now we just don't have the money to fix the Z11.
parkbrau Feb 11th, 08, 05:11 AM Put the Z11 away for awhile. Money will come around later in life. Z11s only come around once.
Yellow69RSZ Feb 11th, 08, 05:38 AM See if your wife likes my red 68 Chevelle vert for sale in the "other vehicles" section of this site. It's ready to drive for spring!:yes:
36j1967 Feb 11th, 08, 06:06 AM You might try the classifieds at www.camaropacecars.com for a trade?
ramblin67rs Feb 11th, 08, 06:20 AM Do you have money to restore it? Z11 for plane jane?....Desireable limmited quantity or 1 of 200 Camaros available on EBAY at this very moment?
fireeater Feb 11th, 08, 06:51 AM I noticed in your signature that the 81 camaro(wifes car) was sold to afford child. HHHHMMMMM. Payback time? I would store the car and maybe get her a Sebring convert or something of the sort. Of course, we should keep them happy also so we stop getting dirty looks as the UPS truck shows up at our doorsteps.
Wait a minute....what am I saying? Keep the car and smile everyday she complains.
Dave
Camaros-n-Chevelles Feb 11th, 08, 07:40 AM Keep the Z11 and as time and money permit, restore it.
This is a once in a lifetime find.
Unreal Feb 11th, 08, 10:18 AM Trade the wife in for a younger model.
Be careful, you might end up with a "plain Jane"
wiskeesour Feb 11th, 08, 10:38 AM Z11 Stays. period.
Fred Ficarra Feb 11th, 08, 12:50 PM I can't believe we're having this conversation. Keeping the car is not optional! The wife is. OUCH! sorry honey,,,,,

Sell the child to afford the z11:yes:
GMJoe Feb 11th, 08, 03:50 PM It dont cost a thing to let it sit, keep it....
crustyz11 Feb 11th, 08, 04:02 PM I know this car is a once in a lifetime find but i am not a "by the numbers" kinda guy. I really do love this car but i would feel less guilty about modifying something less rare.
DAVE V Feb 11th, 08, 04:08 PM keep it! If you get rid of the car and then something happens between you and her and you split up then you have neither.
tonycamaro Feb 11th, 08, 04:10 PM I'm with the rest of the guys who say keep it. I bough a Z11 # matching car 2 years ago that needs total resto. I have so many projects going on that I may not get to it for a few years, but at least I know it's there.
crustyz11 Feb 11th, 08, 04:12 PM WE'll never "split-up", My buddy runs a tree service, he says i can borrow his wood chipper anytime!! HA-HA-HA, he-he-he :)
crustyz11 Feb 11th, 08, 04:16 PM Gotta go work my 12-hr shift now, but keep the opinions coming. I respect all your thoughts on this and will probably check back tomorrow afternoon...C-ya.
mb302rs Feb 11th, 08, 05:26 PM Great idea ! ask a bunch of camaro crazed guys on a THE camaro website if you keep the car that they are all looking for. Then you say honey ,I checked on the web and everyone said....... we would be making a mistake by tradeing it off:rolleyes: And you get to keep it for a project during your middle age crisis :hurray: You truly are smarter than she thinks you are
crustyz11 Feb 12th, 08, 05:55 AM Yup, she started getting mad at me about how some of you responded, and i just sat here laughing my arse off!:D:D;)
Old Man Feb 12th, 08, 08:26 AM Good 1st gen Camaros are getting harder and harder to find these days where as a good woman on the other hand, well you know. Keep the Camaro, the wife is your choice. j/k kidding about the wife part but keep the Camaro.
alanrw Feb 12th, 08, 08:30 AM Keep the Z11, if you sell it, you will hate yourself for a long time.

gameaholic Feb 12th, 08, 02:36 PM As much as I would love to buy it I have to say KEEP IT. If I ever get one It will be mine till I die.
kcs Feb 12th, 08, 07:39 PM I'll take it off of your hands from you. I've got a finished 68 that your wife would love. I'd probably even deliver it to you.
crustyz11 Feb 13th, 08, 06:48 AM Well, i'm not selling it as in, no more camaro's. I'm thinking of trading it for something that would require a shorter or no restoration. I figure if i did most of the work myself, it would take at least 5 years to finish the Z11, provided i had the money all at once. Realisticly it would be much longer.:o
jjbaldw Feb 13th, 08, 08:45 AM My wife would be the same way. She would rather have a nice, but rather ordinary car that was ready to enjoy immediately.
...but for many of us the enjoyment comes with the planning, the wrenching, the sweat, and the pride that comes with having a truly unique car.
Unreal Feb 13th, 08, 09:04 AM I've been working on my "two year project" for 9 years, now. As I recall, I estimated the resto to cost $10-12k, too!! :)
dboz67 Feb 13th, 08, 09:48 AM :noway:When my parents got married my mom had a 67 Z28 and my dad had a 67 Chevelle SS 396/375 hp 4sp car. He had her sell that crummy l ittle Camaro:noway: and he kept the Chevelle. WHen I was 15 he sold the Chevelle for $2000. Both my mom and dad are both sick about selling those cars, not just because of the price of them today, but they did not HAVE to sell either one of them. Then my first car was a 68 Camaro that my X girlfriend wrecked, I then stored it for 3 years and pretty much gave it away. It was not costing me anything either to keep it. Now I regret that too. If you have to have the money with the economy in the shape it is is, but other than HAVING to sell it. Do yourself and your family a favor and keep it.
My $.02
69 Rat Feb 13th, 08, 11:22 AM I've got a '69 that I've come dangerously close to selling numerous times over the years. No matter how bored or frustrated I got with it, something always told me I'd regret it terribly later in life if I let it go. Now it's in much better shape and I can see my effort bearing fruit, and I know I'd be sick if I'd gotten rid of it.
Now, that doesn't really answer your question since you're going to have a 69 either way, so let me say this: If you are going to modify the car, I'd say you're better off going with a Jane. You won't feel as bad about wrecking the value and everyone else that's an enthusiast for original cars will breathe a sigh of relief that you didn't hack it up. If you're going to just restore and enjoy, that Z11 will obviously be a better investment (and a real cool car). The bottom line is (and you've heard this on these boards before): it's your car - do what makes you happy!
dboz67 Feb 13th, 08, 11:34 AM Well said.
Lost in the 60's Feb 15th, 08, 06:11 PM I read your post about modifying the Z11. If you want a car modified to your tastes and specs....please........trade or sell the Z to someone who will restore it to original and get a modified car to suit your taste. There are plenty of 69's out there to modify or are already "pro street", pro touring". A real, original Z11 deserves to be kept intact. You should have a very good bargaining chip for a decent car.........
Joe Harrison Feb 15th, 08, 07:27 PM If it's not running, make it run and enjoy it the way it is and slowly build on it. Nice or not to the people in the know it's a great Camaro in good condition or not. Your wife and maybe you it sounds like may want something a little more flashy and nicer to everyone that looks at it when your driving it. That's understandable but!!! What you get will never be worth what you have now and when that kid gets old enough for collage you might be able to have it done by then and you and her can have some real fun in it and be the total envy of the Camaro crowd. Good things come to those that wait.
Now I do completly understand the numbers matching thing. Been there done that with a 69 SS396 Chevelle, I just could not enjoy the car......don't get me wrong I loved it but I got very good money for it when it sold. I really do love my little ol 67 plain jane Camaro, that I bought just after buying the Chevelle. I can do what ever I want to it and never feel guilty about it. I will never sell it and my kids fight over who gets it when I die.
Decide what you "really" want and then don't give away the farm. Ask for the moon when it come to price and don't be in hurry if your going to sell it. I would not even think of trading strait up for jane car needing work but is still a "nice" car. I got 22K for my chevelle and a 68 Camaro that I sold after about 6 months and $500.00 into it for $13.5K.
Thank about it, plan it out, look at what is out there and let a buyer/trade/cash come to you. In the mean time do a little to it and enjoy it if you can.
Joe
tom weinel Feb 16th, 08, 11:38 AM I would keep the car you would kick yourself later if you sell it.The prices are not that good right now to sell
