Neat Car. wiskeesour Feb 12th, 08, 07:49 PM why isnt the vaccum advance hooked up? How are the heads 'hemi-spherical' if the spark plugs arent "over" the piston? HHMMM... They were experimental heads and intake. As hemi shaped as they could be with the constraints imposed by the block. Being discussed here as well. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=127029 BelAirBob Feb 12th, 08, 08:31 PM why isnt the vaccum advance hooked up? How are the heads 'hemi-spherical' if the spark plugs arent "over" the piston? HHMMM... The "hemi" designation had more to do with the shape of the combustion chambers, which were hemisperical. The valves were canted slightly, and the chambers were round. Ricks has one installed in a sweet 69 JL8 Z on their showroom floor. Can't even imagine the value on that one :) twozs Feb 16th, 08, 08:39 AM hemi has more to do with valve position in the chamber. normally the valves are in a line like this [-] in a hemi there like this [I] placing the intake in a direct strait line up and down with the intake runner and the exhaust valve in a straight line with the exhaust port with the spark plug in the middle. there was a slight doming on the chamber itself to get the large valves and spark plug to fit. the chevy head is more a semi hemi like the ford boss 429 definitely not a straight line up and down but an obvious offset more than the normal configuration |
