: Assembly process

I have my 69 RS Z almost stripped down to a rolling shell for the painter. I have referred to the AIM while disassembling the car and it looks like from the AIM that the car is assembled from the front of the manual to the back of the manual. Not sure if I am being clear, but my question is; when I am ready to put my car together again should I start at the beginning of the manual and work my way towards the end of the manual?

Thanks

Ive never really thought about whether the UPC section of the AIM is sequential or not. The back (RPO) section is alphabetical.

If you havent already, this is a very good read and will likely answer your questions

I used the manual as I reassembled my 68 convert. It helped me with orientation and exact fittings needed. It looked to me like it followed logical assembly process.Good luck!

Search for the thread on here about errors made in folks' projects from about 1-2 months ago. Most of the "True Confessions" were about installation sequence errors. May help you avoid making the same mistakes.

eg. If you install the fenders before you install the windshield and bright trim, it's a major job to get the lower piece in place without damaging it or the paint. It can be done, but not easy...ask me how I know. :)

The manual is by organized by subassembly/assembly process.

"JohnZ" gave one of the best discriptions of the layout a while back in a reply.
Here is the text of his reply:
The A.I.M. organization is really pretty simple if you work with it regularly (like I did for decades); the first half (UPC Groups - Uniform Parts Classification) covers all the parts released for a "base car" (no options), as follows, with an index sheet at the front of each section that shows which items are on which sheets in that section:

0 - General Information, Stickers, Sealers, Adhesives, Shipping List
1 - Body and Trim
2 - Frame
3 - Front Suspension
4 - Rear Suspension and Driveline
5 - Brakes
6 - Engine
7 - Transmission & Clutch
8 - Fuel & Exhaust
9 - Steering
10 - Wheels & Tires
11/13 - Front Sheet Metal & Radiator
12 - Electrical
14 - Bumpers & Miscellaneous

The second section is all the options, arranged in RPO alpha-numerical order (A31 through Z87, etc., with an index sheet at the front of each option).

Hope this helps;
