View Full Version : Fuel Line Routing

Hi guys!

Have a 69 with a small block, stock setup. One of the two fuel lines are leaking mid-length to I plan on replacing both. Have the car up on jackstands and have removed all the clips. How do I pull the lines out, specifically around the engine bay? Do I need to cut them? Mine look stock and run out the engine bay, over the subframe, and back along the side of the car. Looks ugly getting them out of there - awefully tight. Oh and only have a few feet on either side of the car in the garage.

I pulled the rubber tubing near the tank off both lines and am pouring gas out of the 3/8" line from the tank. It's pretty full. I guess I just need to get a hose higher than the fuel level in the tank to keep it from pouring while I change the line?

How the heck do I route the new lines in? Got them today and they are pre-bent and folded in half for shipping. Have read other posts but am confused on how I get the old ones out and the new ones in!

The lines will come out and the new ones will go in. The trick is to keep most of that Shipping bend in it. Straighten it out so it's a big Vee, then work the front part over the subframe and into the engine compartment. Once that's in there, slowly straighten it the rest of the way till you can get it all where it belongs, then lock it down.

And yes, put a long length of hose on the sender tube, bring it out into the wheelwell, and duct tape it to the inner fender.

Thanks, JimM. Your posts are always right on target and I am super appreciative. So, you're saying with the new lines I work up into the side of the car up into the engine bay? Or push them down through the engine bay over the subframe?

Shouldn't you be giving roses now instead of moderating?? haha

Form the outside. Push the tubing up between the floor and the sub until the big bend is in the right place. It will take some doing, it's a tight fit.

Once that hard part is in, just straighten that shipping bend till the length of the cable lays where it should. Make sure you get the very back end of the cable thru the support bracket in the back before it's completely straight.

Wife says "we've been married twenty years, and we know we love eachother, let Hallmark keep this holiday. I did take her out to dinner tho.

That's the way to do it! All in and much easier than I thought. Thanks! Aftermarket bends were better than I thought as well. Pretty good.
