View Full Version : Rick's Tank...Who has?
69 merlinpro565 Feb 15th, 08, 02:53 PM I may have to bite the bullet and get a ricks "Stealth" tank.
I have a couple of questions...
1) With fuel injection, will this tank let you run at a 1/4 tank or less (not that i will always do that) and not have to worry about sucking air?
2) I'm going to use 3" exhaust, will this tank give me as much room as the stock tank would, especially at the corners of the tank?
I did call ricks a couple of months ago, and they said i should not have any probs with the fuel on a low tank, and weren't sure about the exhaust other that their tanks are aprox same dimension as a factory tank...
These are a lot of $$$, so before i sell all my wifes "jewelry", If you guys can tell me from experience, or what you know about them, I will thank you in advance!
PICS would be nice also...Dave.
Musclerodz Feb 15th, 08, 05:20 PM they use baffles in the tank, so no problems running low amounts. 3" exhaust is tight on any Camaro still running leafs. You could always run a narrowed tank like for a mini-tub kit, but will lose capacity.

BigBlock1969RS Feb 15th, 08, 05:28 PM I thought the narrowed tanks were deeper to make up for the narrowing? Are the narrowed tanks really a smaller capacity?
prostreet69camaro Feb 15th, 08, 07:40 PM All they do on the narrow tanks is cut about 2'" of each side. They are still the same shape except they arent as wide.
MREMCHN Feb 16th, 08, 07:06 AM Straight from Jeg's on-line catalog. They sell Rick's fuel tanks.
"Mini-Tub Fuel Tanks
The Mini-Tub tanks are narrowed 3'' per side to allow movement inboard of the leaf springs.
Narrowed tanks have an increased depth of 1'' to regain lost capacity. "
MissionCritical Feb 16th, 08, 09:49 AM I have one. I don't know if its narrowed or not, but if you want the width, I can give you a measurement. It does hang down a bit as the tank is deeper, but I don't think its ugly or anything, but you can visually see it from the back. My car is also mini-tubbed using the DSE tubs.
I also don't have any leafs, as I have a 4-link. I am just now getting around to running the exhaust, so can't say what works well.
What Rick's did do for me was notch the tank on the corner, to help with the exhaust. I don't think it cost much (if any) extra. I would guess that it gives up about 1 gallon on each side of the tank, but you get a way to run the exhaust out behind the rear tire easily this way.
One tip: Put your wires on for the fuel gauge, ground and hot wire before bolting your tank on as its very hard to get them on later.

ProdigyCustoms Feb 16th, 08, 03:40 PM We install and sell a lot of these, use them in all out builds that specify a Stainless Tank. Absoutly the best quality tank you can buy. The best thing to do is get with Lisa and she will set you up with a notched corners tank, so you do not loose capacity running a fully narrowed tank. Yes they can be made deeper, we have even had them make one with exhaust reliefs in it for the tailpipes to pass by and exit the rear body panel.
As I said, Lisa is a Ricks expert and probably sells as many Camaro tanks as Ricks, and at better prices then Ricks.
Lisa can be reached at four zero seven 832 1824
MissionCritical Feb 16th, 08, 05:41 PM One other thing that amazed me about the tank was the weight. A standard gas tank weighs almost nothing. These tanks, and I don't know if all stainless tanks are like this, are so heavy you can barely pick them up.
Overall, I am very happy with my Ricks Stealth tank and will probably get another one for my '69.
