Hi guys,, I got one for ya.. I have an original 68 RS/SS 375 HP. 4speed. Here is the rub.. Everything so far is original on this car... I have been told that the 68s did not come with a plain face shifter arm,, Well,, Mine has one.. the code on the muncie tranny is P8C22E ,, The Vin. number on the motor and tranny is a perfect match for the car's body VIN. #.. I have the original POP and I called the original owner of this car and everything he has told me about the car is true.. He addimently said the car originally did not have the word 'MUNCIE' on the shifter arm.. So is there any numbers on this original Muncie shifter that can prove it originally came on this 68,????... Help,, Help,, Really at my wits end,,,

The only shifter handle that didn't have the Muncie on it in 68 was for the saginaw transmission. My guess is that the shifter handle broke, as many did, and was replaced. The original owner might not have really paid attention to the script on the handle when he owned it 40 years ago.

Thanks so much,, You are the only person here on this forum that has told me this type of an answer.. I have been told in years past that the 1st. Camaros the 67s did not come with the word Muncie on them,, non of them.. so it is possible this was originally installed at the factory in 68... Back in those days anything was possible.. they may have run out of the 68s or it was just a flat out mistake, or maybe they had some left over from 67, and they was'nt going to just throw them out.... I might just go ahead and keep the plain face instead of replacing it with the "Politically Correct One",, and keep it original.. I just wish there was some way I could prove it originally came this way..., any idea's..

If the original owner says it was that way when he bought it...and there is another a confirmed original owner car that was the same way...I think thats the best evidence....
...unless you use carbon dating..;)

My 15K mile 68 L78 I bought from the original owner had this for a shifter handle. I guess I'll put it back on since its original.
