Have the top installed on my 67 conv. well almost, In the kit they supplied a small piece of top material appx 4" wide and as long as the top width. Is this some sort of trim piece for the front of the top at the header that I install, also what is the best type of glue to use for the header and quarter areas to install the top to the frame.

It sounds like the wire on binding piece. The folded up strip that goes across the rear top of the roof that has the two chrome escuthceons on the end. This is the piece that keeps the back edge of the roof attached to the roof frame.

Your correct about where that 4 inch piece goes, sort of a seal or trim between windshield top and convert top.
I saved the old piece when I put on my top. It was a piece of cloth tubing of some sort, but was too far gone to reuse. You wrap the trim piece around it and tuck in the ends neatly. Mine was stapled to the header bow. I used a piece of rubber tubing, I think 5/16, don't remember for sure. It's hidden,so you can't see it and it works really well, plus the tubing has a lot of flex so it seals real good
Hope this helps Bill

Thanks Bill, the tubing sounds like the ticket, what type of glue did you use, I was thing of the tried and true 3m super spray adhesive. Rick

When I rolled the tubing in the trim piece, I did it off center so one side was longer than the other. Then I stapled the piece to the bow and then folded the remaining long piece over the staples. I used 3M super adhesive, good stuff, and seems to be holding. Messy to work with in a small space. I think you can also buy it in a can that's brush on. The only time you can see it, is when the top is down and the boot is off. It looks pretty good, better than the one I took off, it looked like it was put on by a mad man with a outta control staple gun.

I am able to do a lot of mechanical repairs but have never attempted to replace a convertible top. I removed the fabric from one once and found it to be a very difficult job.
The top on my 67 needs to be replaced and I thought I might have to pay a shop to do it. However, if I could do the job well myself, without leaving loose or tight/binding areas, I would do it. Have you been satisfied with the results when you replaced the top yourself?

To answer your last question first, yes I'm quite happy with my top. For your other question, it is one of the hardest things I have every done to a car, took me 2 days to do it,and I kept telling myself never again.
You know your limitations better than I, so it is hard to advise you what to to do. Some people are good at one thing and others are good at something else. I've done body work for 25 years and think it's easier to to repl rear frame rails or inner wheel wells than put on a top. But on the other hand they want about 500 bucks to install a top and I hate to pay someone to do something I can do myself. If you decide to do it, get GM body manual, it has a real good wright up on how to do it, measure about 10 times and then cut, cause if you screw up you can't weld it or glue it.

Bill,

Thanks. It seems like a tough job. Now I know why they charge as much as they do.

Just an update, Got the top installed and it looks good, nothing like Marina Blue with that white conv top, It was not as bad as I expected, being my firs attempt at installing one, ended up with around 14 hours total and could probaly do it again in about half that time, Its alway easier the second time , remember that first brake job ):

Glad it worked out for you. I been working on cars for too many years and remember a lot of "FIRST ATTEMPTS" looking back, I can't believe I was that stupid. I would do it again, like you say second time around is lot easier.
