I see some have this listed on ebay as a 69 SS grille emblem w/o RS, but the info I have is straight out of a GM parts counter book from 1977.

Not necessarily, there are many parts where the casting number doesnt match the actual part number. Some do, some dont for some wierd reason.

sometimes the casting number IS the part number, other times they are not. MOST instances where they are NOT occur when the cast part is part of an assembly or is combined with other parts to make up the part ... ie heater control

I think in this case the actual part number included the emblem, the backing plate and the speed nuts to attach them all ...

That makes sense, Jim thanks. The reason for the research is, I bought this on eBay as a item that works for a 67, 68, and 69 camaro. The seller new nothing more... I want to re list the item and do not want to deceive anyone, in any way. I know only that it will not fit an RS grill and what Mike has posted. I want to be sure it is not a re-pop in a NOS box and the exact usage as far as years for a non RS grill.....Thanks again
