I bought chrome Alternator 7 years ago and after about a year the Chrome started cracking and now it's all flaking off. Any ideas why this would happen?

Cheap chrome
A lot of aftermarket stuff is not prepared and pre nickle and other metals before the chrome
This adds heaps to the cost of chroming..
u pay for what u get when it comes to good chrome.
