Does anyone know if adding a aftermarket hood scoop to the stock hood will look good? I also was thinking of replacing with one of the Z28 hoods. Which way would be the best approach?
The main reason for this is I want to put a larger air cleaner on the engine. It is a 350 with high rise intake and a holly 4bbl.
It's just to close to the hood.

I did it to my 85 berlinetta
twice
first was a mopar style six pak scoop - it has a dual opening and so you get the openings to straddle either side of that molded centre line in the hood
now i have a boss mustang style hood scoop - similar dual inlet look - however it came without any opening at all - although it looked that way in catalog (i just did not think to ask, duhh)
we cut dual opening sand pianted it hood color - looks fine to me - both scoops came from Aero Fibreglass in Delano, somewhere USA
if you can get a scoop that looks molded and as low as conveniently possible - as the stock hood is rather flat sloping to the front so any tall scoop sticks out like - well - a scoop
but if you wanted air like me, looks was as important as functionality
sorry I can't send pictures - not techieed fully yet
I saw a molded type in classic industries but it did not look

Thanks for the info caribbean camaro! How hard was it to cut the stock hood? Was the cut for the scoop when installed visible?

Actually rsisk, the specific scoops I mentioned were chosen beacause they were wide and long enough to fully cover the 16"-18" round opening we cut in the scoop - so that I could fit a 14 in cleaner x 4" and have it come up just partially into the hood opening under the scoop not too much
Just so you know, the centre of the carb looking from on top the hood is not dead on with the centre of the hood - so you must measure width of proposed air cleaner from both fenders to mark out the area to be cut
we used a drill - punched hole after hole until we made a circle and then cleaned up with metal shears
I suppose a good sawzall type saw would be just as good

I guess as long as the scoop is centered and is high enough for the breather I should be OK. Is there any rule about how far you should allow for proper air intake on the breather and scoop?
Thanks again for the info, I think i will use a sawsaw or sabre saw for this hole cutting exercise. I lined me up another hood at the junk yard in case I get carried away. Ha! Ha!
