I'm fixin to buy some new gears for this 12 bolt rear end. It currently has 4.88's.

Anyone here use Yukon gears?
If so, how'd you like them?

I've had a set of 3.55's for appprox 3000 miles with no issues - street and spirited useage.

Thanks,

Glad to hear some others are using them before I buy them. They talk about 8620(?) steel. Is that different metal than other gears?

I'm pretty sure they are decent gears, but just FYI they are made overseas.
Randy's sells tons of them and the guy I spoke with there assured me they were fine when I asked about country of origin, but I bought an American made gear for only a little more. Just something to consider.

I had no idea. What country just out of curiosity?

Anyway, what gear ratio do you run again and what brand? I am good with paying more for American made.

Thanks for that tip.

US/Strange Gear is available through Summit or Jegs. This is a great US made gear.

Honestly I'm not 100% sure country of origin, but I'm pretty sure it's China. He kind of skirted around it when I asked if it was an American made item, and he said "uh, no, it's from overseas, but we have had good luck with them..." I let him know I was not interested based on it not being American made, we have plenty of great gear manufacturers in the US, I'll be darned if I'll save a buck on overseas gears. I think the guy totally understood, but didn't really get into it, he's selling the stuff after all. Everything Yukon is overseas I'm pretty sure, the diffs axles and gears are at least, I went with an Eaton posi, Moser axles and strange gears, it cost me maybe 200$ more all told, I'd have spent 300$ without a second thought though.
I ended up with strange gears actually, but have used Richmond as well in the past. I am running 4.10 right now, and had 3.73's before. I was real happy with the 3.73 but the 4.10 is even better around town, not so much on the freeway but I spend very little time on the freeway.
I figured you might be interested in country of origin, I wish more people were .

Strange it will be then.

I too will go with 4.10's.

Thanks very much for the advice. You are absolutely right!
