Installed my zz502 / TKO 600, with Hooker Super Comp headers. I am using factory Z bar and linkage. The only problem I ran into was the rear mounting location for the return spring. The mounting bracket for the factory return spring needs to be fastened to a factory exhaust manifold. Since I am using headers I cannot find a good location for the rear end of the spring to mount too. Does anybody have ideas or pics?

Hmmm....I had a problem with my SBC and ended up using a hose clamp around a tube to attach my return spring :). I'm sure you can find a suitable place to relocate it.

Hose clamp here too.
It's way down low, you don't see it.

I made a small L shaped bracket and fit it under the inner frame mount bolt.

I too made an "L" shaped bracket, but I attached it to the left most bolt on the inspection plate cover. Worked really nice... and I made a bracket that kind of curves in sort of an "L" around towards front of the car next to the oil filter... so it looks pretty clean. I then just used a spring that I got in one of those "HELP!" spring kits that I got from the local parts store to get the tension where I wanted it (which was really just whatever felt right to me).

Thank you for the ideas, bob560 sorry about asking a stupid question but what inspection plate cover are you talking about?

The inspection plate, or "flywheel cover plate", is simply the thin plate that attaches to the bottom portion of the bellhousing via 4 bolts to cover the open gap - it basically protects the clutch from trash and debris getting up inside. You can see one here at Firewheel Classics (http://www.firewheelclassics.com/store/item.asp?Category=54&SubCategoryID=69&GroupID=&SKU=TRN171).

As I said, this plate attaches to the bellhousing via 4 small bolts, and the left most bolt is in an ideal location to attach some sort of bracket for the clutch spring. What I did was I ran a bolt through the bellhousing from the opposite side, so that the thread end was sticking out... sort of like a stud. This made it easier to attach the bracket and then just thread a nut on (also easier if the oil filter is off at the time).

I hope that made sense. I might be able to take a photo of what I did, if you'd like to see it.

Made perfect sense, I always called the cover a "Dust" cover...my mistake. Thank you for the idea I am going to do it tonight.

Don't feel bad, as I call it the same thing, or a "dust shield" :). I don;t think there's much you can inspect when you take it off :)

Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure why I called it that  I must have seen or heard it called that somewhere... but I can't seem to figure out where. Maybe it's one of those "soda" being called "pop" things :) Yeah, "dust shield" or even "flywheel cover" make a bit more sense.
