I am looking to paint my 76 camaro which has its original paint.I would like to do as much work as possible so that I can save some money. Is there any way to get the original paint with a liquid stripper etc. Also if I were to use sand paper to do the tear down, is there a type of grit of paper that is better to do this with. Also what type of filler should I use, is there any particular type that may perform better than others? Thanks very much http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Hello,
I didnt realy understand what you were asking about the striper, but 40 and 80 grit paper work the best to strip a car to the metal. 3M makes a good product with the sandpaper and with the body filler. The gold body filler i have found works better. It spreads alot easer than some of the cheep stuff.

I used a good chemical stripper called Aircraft Remover by a Klean Strip. I would reccomend a light sanding with a coarse grit before applying the stripper, this will give the stripper some area to get into. Also, apply the stipper in heavy coats. Make sure you tape up the seams of the car so the stripper doesn't bleed back through your new paint. The stipper is not always strong enough to break through some primers so you may also have to sand down the rest with a Dual Action sander, but using the stripper first will save you a lot of work.

Thanks for the info, I will try the chemical stripper mentioned, and will definitely get my hands on an orbital sander. Thanks a lot guys. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
