: Newer Camaro/TA seats in a 69
wrooster Feb 26th, 08, 02:00 PM Anyone retro fit newer Camaro or TA seats in a 69. IF so how much work was involved, and do you have any recommendations as to which ones fit/look the best. I am building a semi Pro touring 69, Tubular control arms and updated suspention, Autolite guages in the dash, but still want a first gen feel. BTW it will be sporting a 427/425hp, with a Th 400. Going to retain the console and horseshoe shifter.
Thanks
Wrooster
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Feb 26th, 08, 04:26 PM There was a post on here about a month ago a guy had some late model seats that were covered like hounds tooth with orange stitching. I'll try and look back in some of my posts they looked like the belonged.
hypersport750 Feb 26th, 08, 05:32 PM Like the seats on this one on Ebay? Not mine, just happen to see it after reading your post.

Eric Kammerer Feb 26th, 08, 07:38 PM It's a common retrofit. The rear mounts don't line up, but they are easy to cut off and modify.
Search here for "4th seats" (as in 4th gen) and there are quite a few posts. If you want to get fancy, I have posted pics of the mount mods, so you can do an advanced search for those terms and posts by Eric Kammerer.
I had 96 T/A seats, which I picked because the 4th gen 'Bird seats have a separate headrest, like the 1st gens. After I modified them and mounted them up, I found them just a touch too tall, so I went back to the OE 69 seats.
yellowrallys Feb 28th, 08, 11:52 PM I have 95 or 96 (don't remember) Camaro seats in my car, and I really like them. The wife likes too, because she can tilt the backrest down and nap on trips. A little fabrication on the brackets is required.

wrooster Mar 1st, 08, 09:38 AM They look good, How hard was the conversion. Do they set up higher than the originals?
yellowrallys Mar 2nd, 08, 07:34 AM Not too big of a deal, some modification to the brackets to fit the holes in the floor. You can fit them to the height that works for you. I think mine are about the same as the originals.
wiskeesour Mar 2nd, 08, 08:45 PM Seats from a 94 300Z. look great not much work....
Geezer Mar 2nd, 08, 09:02 PM Back around 73-74, a friend put fairly new TA seats in his 68. they looked good and were much more comfortable. But that point is moot because those are either trash or hard to find by now....
RichieFlorida Apr 7th, 08, 05:19 PM Seats are from Corbeau. They are the Leather GTS II. They recline and also have an inflatable lumbar support.

prostreet69camaro Apr 8th, 08, 08:00 AM The front mounts line up to the original bolt holes. Once you have them in you will see what needs to be done to the back bolts. All you have to do is weld some flat bar to the side of the bracket and drill new holes in the flat bar. If you want to lower the seats you will have to modify the mounting brackets so the seat will sit lower.
I think the camaro seats look better. I dont like the trans am head rest. It looks to big. But that is just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!
Nine Ball Apr 21st, 08, 12:44 PM The front two holes match up perfectly between the 1st gen and 4th gen. The rear hole mounting tabs can be cut off an rewelded in the correct location to line up with the rears. Easy way to do this is by removing the carpet, cutting the tabs off the rear of the 4th gen seats, bolting the fronts into place, then tack-weld the tabs onto the seat rails where they are lined up properly. Remove the seat and finish the MIG weld on those tabs.
here are some pics I made to explain it:

sleepsinshed Apr 22nd, 08, 08:02 PM Those seats are awesome Dave! Were the seat covers custom made? That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks, the covers are indeed custom. I bought a complete set of "standard" vinyl upholstery, then had the guy re-cover the rear seat, so it looks new. Then on the '94 buckets, he dis-assembled the covers and used them for a pattern for the new covers. He took apart the stock '68 front covers and used the center sections so that the seats would closely resemble the correct seats. He then sewed up the custom black vinyl pieces from his patterns and inserted the stock '68 center sections, and it came out real nice. I had him add a discreet "Camaro" logo at the top of each seat.
The seats are very adjustable and they hold you in place much better than the stock seats, plus they have a headrest. Finally, for additional safety, I added 3-point belts. I'd probably add a airbag too, if I could, heheh.......
:)
