I have a standard 79 camaro. I've been thinking about adding a rear stabilizer. There isn't one now. How hard would that be? Would it be worth the trouble? Or is there something better aftermarket?

Is it worth it? Probably not much unless you redo the entire suspension. A larger front is probably worth more. IMHO. scrup Feb 26th, 08, 06:56 PM Yea, thanks...I think I'll spend that 300 on something else. Unless I find a beat up z for parts. Thanks Fred Ficarra Feb 27th, 08, 11:50 AM Steve, the most important thing about sway bars is to be sure to use a matched set. As in: engineered. Very important to keep you from crashing. RestoModZ28 Mar 10th, 08, 10:10 PM Funny you mention that ...the most important thing about sway bars is to be sure to use a matched set. As in: engineered. I got a set of stabilizers off an old 73 formula 400. The front is 1-1/4 inches (I believe) and the rear is 1 inch or 3/4 inch. the car is plenty stiff as is. The rear would ensure 0 body role - where is the rear stabilizer mounted? I have seen pics and manuals with rear stabilizer bolted to lower leaf spring plate and above rear spring plate and the upper mounts bolted to the upper frame rails next to fuel cell. I have the bushings and bolts to bolt it on, but do not wish to bolt it on incorrectly. The vehicle is a 1972 Camaro RS Z28 - manual 4 speed with a 350 ci 350 +/- Horsepower. Any ideas on rear stabilizer? also I have 2 independent adjustable rear air shocks connected to battery operated pump with internal controls to set up for various road conditions - rough smooth or curvy you know like most women. I like firm suspension. Fred Ficarra Mar 11th, 08, 10:13 AM As you said, there's lots of ways to hook-up rear bars. But the design of the bar you have (in hand) will dictate how it's bolted up. Just score on the right 'kit' and have fun. Oh, sway bars do little to stiffen suspension. That's a function of springs and shocks. What sway bars do is make any car a corner-carver. Fun. yellow69RS Mar 11th, 08, 10:29 PM I have a standard 79 camaro. If I was you I'd be looking for a Trans Am in the junk yard. If you can take it off then you can see how it is fastened and get all the hardware to put it back. I would get the front one also as the standard bar is a lot smaller than the TA one. Jeff |
