View Full Version : 68 window in a 67
al_olivares Feb 27th, 08, 12:31 AM Is it possible to put a 68 window in the 67? I don't really like the look of the little window and would prefer to have a full glass.
I was wondering if you'd have to change the whole window regulator controls, etc. or if it is just as simple as getting a new glass and re-use the hardware.
Thanks!
Al - 67 coupe.
67CamaroRS/SS Feb 27th, 08, 07:17 AM The regulators are different I believe. With the larger window, the regulator has to attach at different points on the glass. Perhaps someone with a 68 or 69 will chime in. I also have a 67 and thought just as you did. At first I didn't like the vent window, but the more I drive it the more it grows on me. It is unique and you can ALWAYS tell a 67. Give it some more thought before you go through with it. PLEASE.
Lost in the 60's Feb 27th, 08, 07:29 AM The whole outer skin is different to accomodate the vent frame. If you REALLY want to change it the best way is to change the door out with one from a 68, but I believe the hinges are different too, so that may bring on a new set of issues.
Ironman24 Feb 27th, 08, 07:46 AM Dont Do it!!! Please!! Wing Windows Rule!!!!

Thats the only reason i could think of that some one would want to dis-figure a perfectly good 67....

class67 Feb 27th, 08, 06:58 PM I myself, do not have a problem with the wing windows. They don't bother me in the least! and the 68 doors are not interchangable with the 67 without a whole lot of headache.

Mark Rossiter Feb 27th, 08, 08:25 PM This question has been asked on several occasions and it always stirs up a bees nest. Do a search on the topic and you will find out everything you need to do to make the switch-over.
Personally, I think the wing window is one of the standout features of a 67 and I love 'em. My dad never had air conditioning in any of his cars until he finally got had an after-market unit put in the 74 Ford station wagon. It didn't push any cool air past the front seat, so those of us stuck in the way back were always howling for someone to open some windows. Prior to that, wing windows were the only way to get cooled off without having everything in the car blowing around. Do they even make cars without AC nowadays?

What he said!!
Frankrentef Feb 28th, 08, 08:09 AM Winged windows are best for those spring / fall days! Wife likes them because the wind will blow through and not muss the hair!
al_olivares Feb 28th, 08, 08:27 AM I am concerned about 2 things: 1 winged cars are easier to break into, and 2 there is always the potential for a "leaky" wing.
Maybe there is no real substance to these fears...

DaveR Feb 28th, 08, 08:55 AM Al, sell your car to someone who will appreciate it for what it is. If you are worried about theft or leaks, an early Camaro of ANY year is not for you! They all have their pitfalls. What we long time proud Camaro owners do is park them in a garage, drive them on nice days, deal with leaks when washed, and don't leave them parked unattended and out of sight for any length of time. These cars only increase in value and the new cars don't so they can sit outside.
DaveR Feb 28th, 08, 08:58 AM Al, one more thing. I have some wing window locks that were on my 67 when i bought it. If you want them, I will give them to you for FREE! Just send me a reply with your address.

dbx1969 Feb 28th, 08, 09:50 AM I own a 69', but I was always was fond of the winged windows on older cars. Kinda like an aircraft cockpit window. And some of you won't like this, but if you're a smoker....wing windows are very convenient :D

I figured the rest of our loyal 67 followers had it handled. ;)
67CamaroRS/SS Feb 28th, 08, 11:02 AM Theft is an EASY thing with 1st gens. A piece of wire between the windown and the verticle weatherstriping that goes on the back side glass and you have access to the door lock knob. I have done this many times when I locked my keys in the car. Perhaps an alarm or better yet, LoJack. Alarms can be easily bypassed. LoJack on the other hand, can not. Most people get their car back in the first 30 minutes with LoJack. That is your best route, if you don't have a garage and ACTUALLY LIKE TO DRIVE THE CAR. NOT ONLY SUNNY DAYS, EVERYDAY. LoJack will give you the assurance to be able to leave your car unattended, anywhere, and not have to worry about it being stolen. These cars are SO EASY to get in to. It takes me 3-5 SECONDS when I lock my keys in the car.
Seriously think about a LoJack system. DO NOT RELY ON AN IGNITION KILL. They can and do get bypassed as well. If they want it bad enough they will put it on a flatbed. At least with a tracking system you can find it. It may take longer, but it will be found.
al_olivares Feb 28th, 08, 02:03 PM Well, obviously I hit a nerve with the fellow 67 owners on this one.
Thank you for your comment Charlie, I will definitely consider LoJack because I do want to drive my 67 more often than only on weekends and special occasions. I plan on driving it to work on most days and leaving it unattended in the parking lot is a concern.
Now, as far as leaks go, I guess I'll just deal with those as they come.

Here's a pic. Many larger truck stops and dealers have them, because the big rigs STILL use vent windows

Dale8346 Mar 1st, 08, 08:36 PM Not trying to be a jerk, but why would anyone with a 67 get rid of the vent windows. It basically is what makes it a 67. It is the most distinguishing feature of the 67. This is the FIRST year of the Camaro, making it a very special car.
aussie1 Mar 2nd, 08, 07:11 PM Origanality is best and should not be messed with. There is to much of that going these days. It is what it is.:noway:
