OK, I know the trunk stripes go over the rear spoiler. I also know they don’t quite go all the way down to the edge lip of the trunk lid - they stop about 1/2 inch before the bottom of the spoiler. I don’t want to be presumptuous in assuming the car is painted with the spoiler on - is it? Seems to make sense to me.
Here’s what sparked the question: check out this 68 RS (with 67 taillights) on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=431502716&r=0&t=0
Beauty of a car, but it looks like the stripes on the spoiler and trunk lid were done separately??
(I know the upper front grill valance stripe is supposed to end about an inch before the front edge of the car)

Why do you think they were done seprately?
I always heard that the striped go to the bottom of the spoiler...but not onto the trunk lip.

I may have this all backa$$wards but I think from the factory the spoiler was mounted before the stripes were added. Dealer added spoilers would have the stripe under the spoiler and you would see it on the lip of the trunk.

Steve, my guess is that they were painted at the same time - while on the car. But thats my guess. I was looking to see if anyone knew for sure.
Dennis - Good point and I bet you're right. Would the plant produce and ship a Z28 without the rear spoiler though?

They shipped them all the time without spoilers for the first six months of '69 production when spoilers were still a stand-alone option, so seeing Z28's in the plant without spoilers was commonplace during that time. If they left one off that was ordered, it wouldn't have looked unusual. Anything can happen - mine was ordered with Z21 Style Trim (on order form, build sheet, and window sticker and has X33 code on trim tag), but has only wheel opening moldings, roof drip moldings, and bright headlight and taillight accents - they forgot the rear quarter louvers and the fender "Camaro" emblems, and nobody caught it (Friday car?)

to answer your question directly, you are correct in assuming that the stripes where added "after" the rear spoiler was installed. the stripes also end 1/2" from the bottom of the spoiler. this is also true for the "ss" and "rs".

I'm curious though, the seller says all the i's have been dotted, and all the t's have been crossed on this car? Were's the lower RS molding on the body? And the 68 taillights? Still a good looking car though.

Right on Stevo. More like they dotted the T's and crossed the I's. Still, I'd absolutly love to have it!!!
