I have located a M22 Rock Crusher transmission that the guy says is from a later model corvette. It has 16 splines on the input shaft.
I am no tranny guy so, First is there such an animal, second can I use it on a first gen project without having to fab alot of things (67 Firebird with a 455). It seems to be priced right, $975. This guy runs a transmission shop so he has to know what it is.
What do I look for and what should I ask.
I am guessing I can get a clutch disc with 16 splines to match it up???
Thanks for your help.

I don't know of any M22's in Corvettes later than 70's. All the Muncie trannys I've seen are either 10 or 26 spline. Might want to look before you buy.

He may have said 26 spline not 16. My mistake. I will get some numbers off of it to post next week.

Make sure that you take the side cover off and identify the gears as M22. It could be a "C" coded case that has been rebuilt with a M21 or M20 gearset in which case you don't really have an M22.
Get numbers from the tranny plus photos of the gears with the side cover removed and folks here will tell you what you have.
To answer one question that you have, if you have a 26 spline input shaft you can use a matching clutch disc to adapt it to your engine.

I will do that next week. I will be out of town for the weekend.
