I have a 69 camaro with a L6 and 3 speed on the floor. It needs a new clutch BAD. I have an extra 4 speed and shifter that I would like to put in it for now. But, I hope to change to V8 in the future. I would like to save the money from buying another clutch if I do a v8 swap. All the parts stores list a different part number for V8 and L6 engines. The bellhousing is a stock 10 1/2 (casting number 403). What is the difference in L6 and V8 clutches 10 1/2 only? What needs to be changed?

To put it in simple terms.

The V-8 pressure plate is stronger, with 'bent up' fingers. The 6 cyl. pressure plate has 'flat fingers'.

The flat fingered plate uses a longer throwout bearing. The bent finger plate uses the short throwout bearing.

As long as you use the correct throwout bearing, you'll be fine.
