Just finished rebuilding my M20 Muncie. It was easier than I thought. But I bought the tools beforehand; a 20-ton press, a bearing splitter and the special 1/8" thin Muncie input shaft nut wrench. You really need these tools for a Muncie rebuild. Total price of the tools was about $300, which is about what the labor charge would have been at any local shop.
Jody Haag was a big help with technical assistance and he treated me right on the pricing for all the parts I bought. Thanks very much Jody!
I took the car for a 20 mile jaunt today and the tranny works perfectly, which is kinda cool, especially since I did the work myself.
Anyone wanting to rebuild a Muncie should definitely get the proper tools and hook up with Jody. Also, I used a terrific Muncie rebuild pictorial from the Chevy Punch Online Magazine web site: http://www.chevypunch.com/issues/ go there and download the Feb '07 issue for the article.
:beers:
