View Full Version : Torq thrust II wheels TTII's?
toolaidback Mar 3rd, 08, 04:51 PM Ok guys, here's my delima. I've been researching wheels for a couple of weeks and I like the polished TTII's. I thought I had it all figured out this morning so I went to order them at the local dealer. I talked to a few members on here and wanted to get:
front 17x7 ,5 on 4.75 bolt pattern with 4 1/2" backspacing
rear 17x8 ,5 on 4.75 bolt pattern with 4 3/4" backspacing
I went to 2 different dealers and they were telling me that the recommended backspacing from american racing is 4 inches and if I order anything different it would have to be special ordered(custom made) and would be anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks and about $50 more per wheel. I've heard some horror stories about AR's backorder problems. I did a search on here and couldn't hardly find anyone with the 4 inch backspacing, as a matter of fact there were people who said not to get the 4 inch backspacing. So, I guess my question is, do all the TTII's that exceed 4 inches of backspacing need to be custom made?, and it would seem to me, with all the guys on here having alot of the same setups, there would be a distributor out there with some of these wheels in stock. If so, any recommendations are appreciated. I live in central Ky. if that helps. Also, my tires i'm planning on ordering are as follows:
p235/45-17 fronts
p255/45-17 rears
They will be going on my 68 convertible with stock suspension.
Thanks for any help or tips,
Scott
67pat Mar 3rd, 08, 06:15 PM If thats what they recommend make them put their money where their mouth is. Tell them to order the 4" backspaced wheels and if they dont work have them agree to down mount your tires give you full credit on the 4" and then have them order the 4-1/2" then they can remount and balance your tires on the new rims. I know for a fact I've seen 4-1/2 backspaced TT2 as a standard and not a special order
toolaidback Mar 4th, 08, 12:47 PM Did all of you who bought the TTII's have to order them and wait or is their a company out there thta stocks them? 67Pat, I probably should let them put their money where their mouth is, but I don't want to prolong getting the wheels on the car any more than I have to. Car show season is coming pretty quick.
Thanks, Scott

X33D80 Mar 4th, 08, 07:13 PM I have 7" wide with 4" B/S on the front and 8" with 4.75" B/S on the rear and they fit great. I don't think you need the 4.5" B/S on the 7" wheels. I got my wheels from these guys at a very good price and bought the tires locally. http://www.tomzwheels.com/catalog/Home/estorefront.htm
Mark68 Mar 4th, 08, 07:40 PM I have a '68 with 17x7 / 4" B.S. on the front and 17x9.5 / 5.5" B.S. on the rear with no issues. I bought these wheels with Riken Raptor tires mounted on them through eBay and paid around $1400 for the whole set-up delivered to my door in about 2 weeks.

Did they have these wheel sizes in stock, and how long did it take them to get them to you? I may give them a call tomorrow.
Thanks, Scott

Hey Mark, do you remember the folks on ebay you ordered yours from. I'm not looking to go that big in the back, but maybe they have some 7's and 8's with the correct backspacing in stock.
Thanks, Scott

In stock with 4.75" back spacing
ProdigyCustoms Mar 4th, 08, 08:18 PM Yeah, wherever you got those backspace measurments is not exactly what I would use. I would not go over 4" on front and would probably even like to see it closer to 3 3/4 for proper outer wheel well fit, to much backspace is going to make it have the sucked in look. On the front use a 5057761 (17 X 7, 4" backspace). On the back wheels I would go 4 to 4.5, again, 4.75 is too sucked in! On the rear use 5057861 (17 X 8, 4" backspace).
If you want to call me tomorrow I can see what I can do for you. Looks like I have access to them, just need to put my hands on them

X33D80 Mar 4th, 08, 08:38 PM Scott,
They were stock wheels and took just a few days to get them shipped ground. The 8" wide rears with 4.75" B/S fit my '69 Camaro really well. I can't speak for the earlier models of cars. I found Tomzwheels on eBay and suspect that he still sells there.
guccieng Mar 4th, 08, 09:14 PM get the 8 inch all around with 4 3/4 bs all around.
toolaidback Mar 5th, 08, 04:29 AM If you look at the thread in this section titled wheels and tires, there is a member named LCAC_Man http://www.camaros.net/forums/olp/images/statusicon/user_offline.gifwho listed his setup & posted a pic of his ride and that is the exact look i'm going for. It's the blue 67 vert.

In stock with 4.75" back spacing
Sorry Len, didn't realize it was you that posted the link above. Too bad I live all the way across the country or I would have bought yours. I see they didn't take long to sell. Did you have any rubbing issues with your setup? My wife saw the pic of your car and really likes the look. I really need to get these wheels and tires ordered soon for the spring shows.

Scott,
Those in the link above weren't mine, just an ebay search. I sold mine last week to another board member, I'm now waiting the 10-12weeks for my custom ordered salt flats....
I would definitely go with 4.75 bs in the rear with a 245-255 tire. Around 4.25" with a 225-235 front.
Zero rubbing with my old setup.
tgifford5 Mar 5th, 08, 08:02 AM Do a search in the suspension section. Search for "What springs work". There is a post there started by David P. and people have entered their different combos there, also with some pics. My combo on my 69 is TTII's front 17x8, 4.75bs, 5x4.75, rears 17x9.5, 5.5 bs, 5x4.75. The tires are 235/45/17 front and the rears are 275/40/17. Wheel measurements center of hub to fenderwell are 13 1/4" front, rear 13 7/8". My suspension is 1" Eibach lowering springs up front and 3 leaf mono replacements on the rear.

I bought my wheels & tires from a gentleman named Richard Millsap through eBay. His e-mail address is Richardmillsap@aol.com and his phone number is 479-471-1835. Let me know if you need any other info.

bama_69 Mar 5th, 08, 06:13 PM Hi guys, As a territory sales rep for American Racing, I believe I can answer any wheel related questions.
The recommended backspacing for the front using a 17x7 TTII is 3.75-4.00 inches. The 4 inch backspace is available for immediate shipment. The part number is 5057761.
The recommended backspacing on the rear using a 17x8 is 4.5-4.75 inches. We stock the 4.75 inch backspace and the part number is 5057863. We also stock a 17x8 with a 4 inch backspace, but you have to be careful with tire selection due to tire rub issues.
I myself have a 69 camaro and that is the reason I check out this site occassionally. It's packed full of good info.
BTW, I am running the above mentioned part numbers.
245/45r17's on the front and 275/40r17's on the rear.
For those running a 17x9.5, you will need 5.5-5.75 inches of back spacing.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for your patronage!!!

Woody,
Any progress being made with the build times of custom backspace wheels? 10 to 12 weeks seems really out of line with the rest of the manufacturers.

bama_69 Mar 5th, 08, 06:39 PM We are running 4-5 weeks on most American Racing brand custom shop orders. There were some issues this past fall because they relocated the custom shop from California to the Weld facility in Kansas City. That kind of put a crimp in things as you can imagine. Just glad it's over!!

Thanks Woody,
That's great news, I'd be tickled with 5 weeks.
bama_69 Mar 5th, 08, 06:59 PM Whats the name of the dealer you ordered your salt flats from? I might be able to give you a status on eta.

hwhawk Mar 5th, 08, 10:07 PM I got my TTM's in black from rcainternationalwholesales AKA Richard Milsap and they were backordered for about 6 months (stuck on a ship from Asia), but he told me this before I bought them and he worked hard to keep me updated on the progress. He is local for me and great to deal with. BTW mine are 17X8 with 4.5 BS all the way around. Only size they come in. Brian
