Does anyone know if the Sound Deadening Mateial, used under the Headliner, of a First Generation Camaro contains Asbestos ???

probably does, as does the undercoating in wheel wells. Use a heat gun to soften, and scrape off if you need to remove it. Wear a good face mask and dispose of properly.

To remove asbestos insulation, make sure it is wet. The wetness prevents the asbestos dust from becoming airborne.

In the process of removing, as we speak.
Completely saturating material, letting it soak
and then removing it "carefully" with a thin
steel putty knife. Aslo using a Fresh-air
Respirator, for good measure.

After you remove the roof insulation what are you guys using to replace it? I already removed mine and I'm debating what material to use to replace it.

I have my headliner out right now; this might be a dumb question, but why would you want to remove this material ?

I'm not removing mine, it is perfectly intact. I've seen some just falling out, in that case I would remove with all the precautions mentioned above using a resperator designed for asbestos and amended water (water and dish soap)in a spray bottle, keeping material wet at all time to prevent it from becoming friable. Asbestos won't kill you now, but it could 20 yrs from now, if you smoke maybe even sooner, bad stuff.

I am removing the orignal Insulation in order for me to replace it with Dynamat. The Dynamat should be a better choice and is of the most current in insulation technology.
