Analog controls look and feel like the original radio!

All controls easily accessible. Volume, tone, balance, fader and tuning
from original-looking controls!

7/16” shafts for mounting exactly match original radio!

LED dial lights will never need replacing!

Digitally tuned AM/FM/Stereo front end provides stable, high quality reception!

I'll be watching for any personal experiences too. I have looked at them also, but the price is out of my budget for now. Cool looking unit...

I think I read something a few months ago on such a radio on the firstegenfirebird.org website. There was a thread about it, but can't remember the details.

I have been looking at the Vintage Car Radio reproduction set for my ’56 Chevy. It looks really good in the picture. I have been dropping hints to my wife that I want one of these for my next birthday. :D

They also have a nice looking 67-68 Camaro set.

Those are nice pieces. I would love to have one and think that in the long run the price is worth fit into the dash without problems. I don't need a CD player or tape deck anymore. With MP3 player hook up and Sirius hook ups who needs anything else and all you music fits in your pocket and your stereo looks like some old AM unit not worth steeling!!

i just purchased one of these radios from www.radiosforoldcars.com (http://www.radiosforoldcars.com). Original looks is important to me so i broke the bank and picked one up. I justified it to my self by saying that a new radio would costs $250.

I have to say right from the start that i hope the radio is a lot better than their customer service. After searching this site for a while, i coldn't find anyone that had used this radio. I called the company and asked if they had any customer feedback that i could read through or anyone that i could contact but they were of no help at all. A month or two with little bargaining power ( an original blue light am/fm is about $1100 ), i bought the radio. I am going to install it next week.

I emailed the company again asking them for speaker recomendations and they still have not got back to me. They really have some bad customer support for a company trying to get off the ground.

Anyway, i will follow up with a report when i have it installed.

Plum_Crazy,

Have you tried contacting their dealer local to you ?? The main page seems to indicate they are in transition from doing the work themselves to farming it out. I did a search of your area and came up with this.http://www.radiosforoldcars.com/dealerslookupF.htm
I was curious about their dealer network, because I stopped at an old radio conversion company near me last summer and they are on the dealer list too. Maybe an email to the dealer in MA will yield better results.

I will call and talk with them about becoming a dealer. I might be able to put something together, but I want to make sure the radio sounds as good as it looks as well. I can't stand the custom auto sound crap and won't let it near any of my cars.

I bought one for my 68 and its nice. I waited 11 weeks so you guys need to order soon if you want it for the cruising season. I haven't put it in yet due to other "Home Life" problems.

You are right about Custom Auto Sound, I don't know what it is, but I can not get a great sound out of it. But, in fairness to them, I don't know that it is not my car. Maybe someone smarter than me with the perfect speakers and sound deadening would say that they have great sound. There just never seems to be enough power out of them, even though I bought their new 200 watt unit. Let's face it, the cars from the late 60's were not designed to receive a great sound system!!!!

I would be surprised though if this original looking unit sounds any better. The companies that make these radios appear to be more price conscious then quality. Everyone of them with an IPod hood up really needs some built in amplifier, but none of them do. Your IPod will sound pretty bad in this unit if they are true to form, would be my guess ???? And the IPod would be the BEST thing to have hooded up to it, not the CD. With the IPod, you can have everysong you have on it and every song you ever had or ever will have !!!!!!!!!
Who wants to carry around a bunch of CD's in their first generation Camaro. You can hide the IPod with a little Velcro or put it in the glove box.

CAS quality issues have been a long standing problem, I had a USA-6 in my last car, took three head units to get one that worked properly and the disc changer lasted about 14 months. You can search them up on pretty much any auto forum and hear the same. They look pretty good in the dash but that's about it (IMHO). Kick panels are pretty good too, just pitch the speakers that come with them.

my biggest problem is my dash is unmolested and i even have the original faceplate.
i would feel so guilty to cut it up. i almost wish someone had already done it. then i could just throw anything in it. for now i listen channel 383-the stroker :)

i am going to install the radio this weekend and get back to the group with a report on how it works out. I am not sure who controls the affiliation with this site and sponsors, but if someone is thinking about establishing a link i would like to reiterate my disappoinment in the customer service at radiosforoldcars.com. After coughing up that amount of dough for a radio, i expect more from a company. They are not helpful at all ( the Seinfeld Soup-Nazi comes to mind !). Anyway, i will follow up.

gmackI would rather leave an open hole in the dash or cut my dash for a modern radio before I put one of thos POS units in a car. They sound horrible, poor quality junk.

We have inquired about becoming a dealer for theses radios. I found out the Vintage does not make these, but I found out who did. Vintage is the national dealer for the other radio they carry that is similar to CAS, they claim is much better. They know alll about CAS and their problems. I will follow up when I have some answers.

I got pretty tired of my AM pushbutton.
And I wanted to leave everything looking original - my buildsheet says AM.

I used this guy --> http://taymanelectrical.com/

Gary Taymen converted my "extra/broken" AM pushbutton radio into an AM/FM, with CD/Ipod hooks on the back.
The buttons only read AM, but you can set them to your favorite FM locations.

Was not quite as expensive as one of those new ones. about $400 including freight both ways.

I ziptied some 4X10's under my dash so now I use 3 front speakers.
Wouldn't call it "world class" sound - but it was good enough for me in my classic car.
(100 times better then that original set up)

Was so happy with the first conversion, I did this to both my Camaros.

Mike,
I've got one of these on my wishlist (if they are as nice as the pic's suggest) so let us know your thoughts on the quality of the unit and if you decide to distribute them, I may be one of your first customers.
