Below are a few pictures of my transmission. Comparing pictures of Saginaws along with Muncies, I know that my transmission is a Saginaw 4-speed (ignorance on my part for believing the seller...who told me it was a muncie).

Anyways, if you guys could take a look and help me decipher which gear ratio I have, that would be great. I have tried looking at other Saginaw's to see what it might be but I cannot tell visually. I know I can look internally or at the insert shaft, but it is installed in my car.

Thanks for any help.

Isn't it a Sag b/c all three levers are in the side cover??

What 1st gear ratio Sag, don't know w/o pulling it and counting the grooves on the input shaft?

Yes that is the first visual clue from what I have read and looked at.

I figured that might be the only ture way to tell what ratio it is. I might do that at a later time to make certain.

Your picture illustrates you have a truck bellhousing, is this vehicle a truck? If you have a passenger car 4 speed, the register bore on the bellhousing is not correct for alignment.

Saginaw's also have ID grooves machined into the maindrive gear splines to designate the 1st gear ratio.

I switched my '80 C/10's Sag 3-speed's front bearing retainer over to my car Sag 4-speed and the car tranny fit the big-holed P/U b/h fine!

I've posted all the groove gear ratio info on all of them if you want to hunt it up.
