: Best place to buy new axles?
Chevy-SS Mar 8th, 08, 07:35 AM -
Well, I guess I'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy 2 new axles. I checked mine and they had some run out, which I posted about: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=128848
Any recommendations on buying new axles? What type, where to buy? I'm thinking Moser or maybe Strange. My car is street only, maybe 500hp, but I wanna add nitrous at some point................
Also, how about the oversize bearings? They look like a good idea.
Thanks
;)

pdq67 Mar 8th, 08, 08:42 AM Superior make axles too!
You going to consider the whole 9 yards and use Ford big bearing ends so you don't have to worry about broken axle retention??
I would!

DOUG G Mar 8th, 08, 11:08 AM I bought mine at hanrahanperformance@netzero.net . No one I talked to could beat their price.
I bought Moser 35 spline spool, axles, and c-clip eliminators (Kit) with 1/2" screw in studs. :D

Chevy-SS Mar 8th, 08, 01:48 PM Is that gray or white ? ......
Yah, it's pretty white. Gonna take an extra coat of black to cover it, haha. Supposed to be real good primer though, made for bare metal............

ProdigyCustoms Mar 8th, 08, 02:02 PM Moser for your axles
DOUG G Mar 8th, 08, 02:37 PM Almost forgot.... Frank (above post) sells Moser stuff too

Thanks Doug, but that seems like overkill for me. I'm never gonna run slicks, so I'm not worried about snapping an axle. I'll just keep the c-clips.
Probably just get the Superior complete 30-spline kit (axles, bearings, studs and seals) from Summit, for $240. Seems like a good buy, and it will all fit right in.
:beers:
DOUG G Mar 8th, 08, 05:03 PM Dave, e-mail them for a stock type replacement from Moser... don't hurt to ask (bet it's a steal)
1969ProStreetCamaro Mar 8th, 08, 05:16 PM Strange axles in my car. Not familiar with Moser so I don't know if their axles are tapered but I know the Strange axles in my car aren't tapered. Just my 2 cents.
68rs406 Mar 8th, 08, 07:52 PM Moser are the best for the money, Mark Williams are great too but more expensive. Which ever brand you go with I reccomend an american made axle, there are a few out there now that are overseas produced.
For mostly street use I'd go Moser replacement c clip axles, but if you plan on ever drag racing with nitrous, just pay the extra few bucks for Moser ford bearing ends and have them welded on, and get the non C clip axles. A little more now will save you later, and the safety is well worth it.
pdq67 Mar 8th, 08, 11:14 PM And I'm glad that my cheap "pdqCBB" rear set-up will hold my broken axles in my rearend housing!
I figure my "pdqCBB" 13" front and 11.75" rear disc brake conversion is THE cheapest there is!!

JodysTransmissions Mar 9th, 08, 09:09 AM Dave, Great looking differential.
Moser axles are not tapered.
Chevy-SS Mar 9th, 08, 09:21 AM .......Moser axles are not tapered.
Jody, does it matter if tapered or not? Seems they would be stronger if not tapered...........
thanks

You are correct, the Moser axles are stronger because they are not tapered.
