I have a 1968 RS that is basically stock, I would like to start my upgrades with a new set of rims and tires. I just purchased a set of Hotchkis 2" lowering springs. What is the maximum tire / rim combo with backspacing sizes that can fit on a stock 68 with minimal rubbing (except for when the wheels are turned all the way) ???

Thanks Doug

Doug if you check in the forums under wheels/tiers, there is alot of great info and tire/rims specs...Make sure you check the back space.

On my 69 fronts are 18x7 with 4" back space 2" Drop Hotchkis springs. Front disc brakes

On my rears are 18x9.5 with 5.5 back space 1.5 Lower Hotchkis leafs. Rear drum brakes

For 17s or 18s: 8" wheel with 4.75" backspace and a 245 tire in the front. In the rear a 9.5" wheel with a 5.5" backspace and a 275 tire. That's the "maximum" sizes that are known to fit.
There are extreme sizes like people running 9.5" with 275s all the way around (do a search CarlC) There are guys using 8.5s in the front with no issues. There are guys using 10s with 295s in the rear. You see where this is going? Do a search - there is days of reading on this. Remember....and this can not be stressed enough.........all these cars are a little different....what works on one may not work on another and what fits on one side may rub on the other. Wear and tear - suspension - body mounts - accidents - replacement aftermarket sheet metal all have an effect. Now that I totally confused you.......I hope that helps.

I don't know about the Cragars but the TTIIs are available in 17X7 - 17x8 - 17x9.5 in 18s they are available in 18x7 - 18x8 - and 18x10 - no 9.5 and the 10s are a much tuffer fit! You need a 5.75" backspace and you will have to pound in the inner wheelwell and probably trim the lip.

We sell and install a lot of Hotchkis TVS kits and sell a lot of Wheels / Tires. JV is dead on. 8" TTs for the front will have to be special ordered thorugh the custom shop in the 4 3/4 backspace on the front. The rear is a production item. Or you can go with something like a Bonspeed for a few buck more and have something unique! Take a look at Bonspeedwheels.com and call us

So I went out shopping Looking for the following style of Rims: Cragar s/s 610 or Torque Thrust II or Foose Nitrous, and I was looking for the following sizes

18" x 8" fronts with 4 3/4" b/s
18" x 9 or 9 1/2" rears with 5 1/2" b/s

Nobody seem to have these combinations of sizes for a 1968 camaro!!!

Could anyone who has these styles of wheels already tell me where they bought their rims and what the exact sizes were? Also a picture of them on your car would be great!!

Thanks alot
