OK guys need your help. I have read all the post for shifter location and nothing is definitive.

I had floor pans installed the ones from Ricks. I wish I would have knowen about full floor pans! Damn. I need to cut the hole for the shifter and i need to reinstall the console.

Any way any help would be great. I have a 69 z/28rs
And I am at the point of putting the interior back in the car. I don't want to butcher anything.

So any help would be great.

Thanks.

The only thing I have seen in the way of a template is on this Firebird site. The template is about 3/4 of the way down this page of FAQs and answers.

http://www.firstgenfirebird.com/firebird/FAQ/interior/consoles.html

I'm not certain if the Firebirds are exactly the same, but I'm fairly certain they are. Someone here should know for sure.

Dave, Eric, that isn't the same cutout size as what you are looking for. I searched alot time to get a good cutout location for my new floor on my 67. The only way I got it was by looking at another car, which I bought a donor car same year as mine. I know there are others here that have done this already, and am surprised no one has buzzed in to help. By the way, the only way I was able to get the correct measurements was by using the subframe alignment bolt holes as reference. I used a string to approxamate the dimensions, and when I was happy where the hole belonged, then made my cutout. Have you tried HywaystarJoe's website?

dave,

the easiest way to relocate the cuttout is with the console itself.

with the black plastic shift tunnel installed to your console locate your console to the rivnut and the 2 front thru holes in the tunnel. mark the inside of the black plastic shift tunnel. drill 4 holes in the corners so you can get a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade started. wear safety glasses and cut out to your line.

center the shift boot retainer ring to the cuttout and mark the mounting holes and drill them out.

tada you're done.

if you replaced your hump........let me know and i'll get you some dimensions for the rivnut location and the 2 thru holes. with those you can locate your console and go at it as i described above.

my tunnel is bare right now so it's easy to get to. i can't post pics but i can email them if you need some. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Hey Guys I figured a way to cut the hole with out making a mess.

I removed the shifter rod (the one that comes through the floor. Installed the shifter assembly on the tranny. It was tight but I got it to bolt up. Then underneath the car I drilled a pilot hole against the bracket that the shifter rod sits in. I then took a 2” hole saw and from inside the car I drilled just to the right of my first pilot hole. I then took a saber saw and started making small cuts. I reinstalled the shifter rod to use as a guide as to how far forward and back I needed to cut by running through the gears. This took some time, but it turned out great no mess and a perfect hole.

Thanks for all of your input.
