View Full Version : 69 Camaro 18 and 19 inch wheels
ricgasp Mar 9th, 08, 06:27 PM I am trying to put 18 X 10 with a 275 tire in the front and a 19 x 11 with a 300 something width in the rear I have mini tubs
Any one know if this will fit?? And what it would look like I am trying to duplicate the tire sizes on a new Z06. I have 17 x 8 and 18 x10 245 and 275 tire now but i would like to go wider.
ricgasp Mar 9th, 08, 06:27 PM Will it fit?
Musclecar Mar 9th, 08, 08:40 PM I have a DSE mini tub kit installed and I am running a 18X11 on mine.. The 19x11 should fit too...My tires are 315/30/18's.. plenty of room.. I believe you can go up to a 12" wheel and a 335 tire with no trouble...
JV69z/28rs Mar 9th, 08, 09:00 PM You're not getting a 18x10 in the front (unless you're building a Donk). You MAY be able to get a 18x9.5 in the front with some compromising. See CarlCs web page. Others have tried and decided to drop down to 8.5 which will work without a big deal. If you want a 10" wide wheel in the front decide who's sub frame you want to buy. Art Morrison or DSE would be on my short list. As stated above in the rear you can go 12 wide with a 335 tire with no issues. Sorry for sounding harsh but just trying to save you from buying something that won't work.
ricgasp Mar 10th, 08, 07:42 PM Thanks
I was going with the 19 inch because I was told the tire choices are more plentiful.
i may not need to do that.
ProdigyCustoms Mar 10th, 08, 09:11 PM What subframe do you have? In the rear if the mini tubs are installed correct we have used 12" rims with 335 and 345s multiple times.
ricgasp Mar 11th, 08, 08:32 AM Stock subframe with a Detroit Speed and Engineering stage 2 kit
alwayscode390 Mar 11th, 08, 09:11 AM Since we are all talking width , can a 17x11 fit in the rear without minitubs (315/35/17 tires)? I learned from this post that 12" widths fit with the mini tubs , thanks ---

One word answer - No - the widest that should work 9.5 and a 275 tire - The widest that MAY be able to be forced to work (lip trimming and fender well pounding) 10 and a 285. Lots a variables on WHY - do a search - there's lots of reading.
ProdigyCustoms Mar 12th, 08, 06:49 AM To run a 10" front and 275 on a stcok subframe you will have to do some frame notching.
stmeljes Mar 12th, 08, 08:02 PM I want to put 18 on the front and dont know how big i can go on the rear. I have a stock subframe and stock rear NO mini tubs front disc and rear drum....so any thoughts..I really want foose nitrous rims...so what would be the largest tire wheel could I go...please help:o:o
ProdigyCustoms Mar 12th, 08, 10:16 PM A 245 / 35 / 18 up front works and a 275 / 40 / 18 works on the rear
stmeljes Mar 17th, 08, 08:05 PM So Frank, I shouldnt have any rubbing or anything on the front or problems with turn radius? Also, I did put 2" lowering blocks in the rear today, so would the 275 still be ok
ProdigyCustoms Mar 18th, 08, 05:24 AM No problem. What wheels are you going to run? Backspace will be important.
stmeljes Mar 18th, 08, 02:03 PM Foose legends or Nitrous as long as its chrome. Remember though I have drum brakes on back so thats what I wonder about. I wonder if I should do
8" rims all around or 7" in front and 9" in back...any ideas especially on backspacing???:confused:
ProdigyCustoms Mar 18th, 08, 11:19 PM Whatever you chosse on the front be it 7" or 8", decut 3 1/8" to 3 1/4" from the total width of the wheel to determine the baclspace. On the rear deduct 4" from the total width of the rim for proper backspace. Using this formula will assure the outer edge of the wheel stays in correct relation to the wheel opening. To much backsapce will make the wheel look sucked in, to little backspace will make the wheel rub the fender.
stmeljes Mar 26th, 08, 07:44 PM So if I put on an 8" on the front my backspace will be 4.75 and if I put a 10" on back my backspace is 5.00?? The Fooose classic Nitrous II only has 8 or 10 no 9". Will the 10" be too big for the back?
ProdigyCustoms Mar 26th, 08, 10:18 PM Your pushing it with a 10, but if you must push it I woud use a 6" back space
stmeljes Mar 27th, 08, 09:45 AM I dont want to push it, Ill just go 8's all around. Frank, I really appreciate your advice. Can't wait for the summer so I can stop by during vacation time and check out your place.
ProdigyCustoms Mar 27th, 08, 11:08 AM Anytime man, just call in advance.

Do u have drum brakes or disc on the back? Would that matter for backspace measurements? Love those wheels by the way

I was real close to going with the JYD's but in the "old school" finish. Cool wheels.

The front & rear have Wilwood Discs. I'm not sure of the rear size
off hand. Backspace has a lot to do with it. I was told this would NOT work (18x10 rear) without rolling or massaging the fender lip which I did NOT do. I guess I got lucky but I did measure before I ordered them.

I will just about guarantee the key statement here is "New 1/4,s". There is without question more room in aftermarket 1/4s than original sheet metal. I have an all original sheet metal/NEVER rusted '69 and I can tell you there is no way a 10 with ANY backspace is fitting with a 275 tire. I believe a 9.5 would need to be messaged to fit. That's why most of time when this topic comes up the "check both sides - ride height - what brakes? - original sheet metal" disclaimer is added. These cars are just not all the same. Case in point read the 2 threads about the American Racing 200S wheels. What fit Muscle Car John's car rubbed on someone elses.
stmeljes May 13th, 08, 03:44 AM Alright I got the front wheels in the Foose nitrous 18x8 with 4.5 bs (only half sizes) now Im gonna push the back with 18x10's so Frank says a bs of 6.00 am I right???
stmeljes May 13th, 08, 10:30 AM Well MHT tells me that it only comes in a 5.5 or a 7 bs so I really dont know what to do go with the 8.5 I guess...

Jack is right...all these cars are different and what works on one may not work on another. The rear ends are never actually centered and if you do careful measurements...which is STEP ONE...you'll see one side will have more room then the other.
That being said,I run a 17x9.5" (5.5" b/s) w/285/40's in the rear and no issues for me during daily driving unless I go up a steep driveway or culvert in which case I'll get a slight inner rubbing but nothing to be concerned about.
I also cut off my over-the-axle exhaust tubing which would surely interfere.
I would not run 8" wheels in the rear because no matter how you slice it,it'll never fill up the wheelwell and you won't be happy with the look.
I am not an expert on 18" wheels on these cars so I can't advise you there...:noway:
