87' 305cu. had the car warming up today..was prolly 30 degress outside..i go inside and walk outside 5-7 minutes later...things smoking like a forest fire under the hood....cut the car off which sounded horrible. opened the hood and theres radiator fluid everywhere and all over the ground...the cap to my overflow container had shot off and coolant and the smoke was shooting from the overflow...sounded like a tea kettle and the coolant was just boiling all over the place in the overflow container....what happend??

i believe my head gasket is leaking because of my oil and because when i will fill the radiator it will bubble back out...but so mouch that it would all come out of the overflow???

A blown head gasket is not good!....Check the oil on the dipstick, if it's a creamy white color then cooolant entered the engine.

yeah i already knew oil was like that...if i let the thing run now the coolant will shoot out like a hose...guess the gasket was gettin gradually worse

what was the temp when you blew the cap of? I wouldnt keep running it hot. If you want that engine i would stop running it, and fix the problem.

You can have a blown head gasket without water in the oil. If the gasket is blown between the cylinder and a water jacket, it'll pressurize the cooling system, forcing water out of your overflow tank. A compression gauge will tell the tale. If you've got a low cylinder or two adjacent low cylinders, then that's your blown head gasket side.
