: Goodmark Body Panels or GM NOS???
Eric327 Nov 24th, 03, 11:30 AM I was wondering if I should use Goodmark GM Certified Restoration Parts,or pay the big bucks for GM NOS parts. I need door skins, fenders, a trunk lid, and a rear tail panel for a '67 RS/SS. Can anyone help me out? Thanks alot!!

shoddy_F-body Nov 24th, 03, 11:36 AM Depends on what yer building.A show winner? A nice driver? Are you doing it yourself? NOS is best but is a LOT of money. The Goodmark quarters are pretty nice, door skins are good, fenders are good, all repro tailpans suck. Extra time may be required to tweak th repro stuff, so keep that in mind if your paying a pro by the hour. If you do it yourself and have the time and patience the repro can save you some cash.
x22d80ragtop Nov 26th, 03, 12:00 PM I used a set of the goodmarks. I didn't like them. Each side fit different. And he is right, repo tailpans SUCK!!! I will buy a slightly damaged used piece and spend the time to repair it before I buy the repo's. Look in places like arizona and cali for good used stuff. Its out there.
shoddy_F-body Nov 26th, 03, 12:27 PM They are retooling the Goodmark quarters,so i read on here.Everything needs tweaking, even NOS stuff can need some TLC. Used aint always so great either. I bought a set of used quarters from Cali for a 72 Lesabre i did. They looked good but i found out they had a coat of plastic over the whole panel to fill the dents and a lot of rust forming in the bottoms of the quarters and wheelhouse seams that hadn't broken thru yet but was on its way.At least you know the repro stuff is NEW.
Eric327 Nov 29th, 03, 09:35 AM I am having a really good body shop do the work. I am not looking for a #1 show winner, but a really nice driver. I was thinking about using the Goodmark fenders, door skins, and trunk lid. I will buy a GM NOS tailpan if the reproductions suck.
shoddy_F-body Nov 29th, 03, 10:29 AM That sounds like a good way to go. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
MangeMD Nov 29th, 03, 12:16 PM I am building a NICE driver, but I am gonna occasionally show it. I went with NOS on everything I could (fenders/hood/doorskins/rockers/quarters/tailpan/header panel). So far it is all lining up very well.

69-Z11Pacer Nov 29th, 03, 01:12 PM My recommendation is use all of the same stuff. If you want to use reproduction, use all reproduction. Don't mix the repro 1/4s with a GM tailpan, and so on....
Use repro hoods, inners, fenders, nose, and valence. It will all line up because it was made by the same people.
Mixing stuff is a bad idea if you ask me.
The repro stuff works good with itself.
hugger_sixty_nine Nov 30th, 03, 05:44 PM Some good advice for you up there Eric. I am in the midst of a very involved restoration after being away from Camaro's & Z28's for over 10 years. I decided to go aftermarket because the Canadian Dollar sucked when I started, and NOS panels were priced through the roof. So far everything has worked out quite well with the exception of the rear tailpan. They do totally SUCK! It has been fitted and now aligns, but not without a lot of work and having to remove and remount the mounting plates for the tail light buckets as they were out by 3/4" for the studs. Make sure you use the full quarters if you are replacing them. Goodmark only offers 80% skins and that will leave seams in the trunk where the top of the quarters meet. No seams always looks better, and you can even buy a repop floor section now that fits as one piece. Good luck!
Eric327 Dec 1st, 03, 10:35 AM Goodmark now makes full reproduction quarter panels that are now GM Certified. I am thinking of replacing the quarters just to save alot of unneccessary block sanding. Thanks alot for everyone's help!
