CHRIS SILVA Nov 13th, 99, 11:53 AM What do you mean by windshield channel?
whitey Nov 23rd, 99, 05:18 PM 67 resto,
I'm restoring my 67 right now too. I've got the same problem with the window channel - rust holes leading into the roof and A? pillar areas from the L-shaped channel which the front and rear windows sit in. I don't know how bad yours are, but with mine I'm cutting the rust out with my die grinder /cutoff wheel and welding in new metal(long strips). The rust doesn't go as far as the roof in mine so I'm hoping this is going to work as well as lots of window mung (sealer).Hope this helps good luck!

1st & 2nd GENGuy Nov 23rd, 99, 07:20 PM I have done the same repair on my 68 rear window. The only thing I am struggling with now is how to replace the studs that the moulding clips attach to. In the past I have popriveted the moulding clips in place but this distorts the clip and does not make a very clean job.

jm69ss Nov 24th, 99, 09:19 AM As far as replacing the clip studs, you've got three choices: 1-purchase a stud welder and put them back like the factory did (couple hundred bucks), 2-find a good body shop and they will put them in for a small fee (most shops have stud welders because they are great for pulling dents), or 3-you can buy replacement sheet metal screws from most aftermarket shops, drill a hole and you're done.
CHRIS SILVA Nov 24th, 99, 03:53 PM Hi there as far as studs for those clips go there is a made for moulding end for a rivet gun and special rivets to go along with that, and what it does is leaves the rivet high enough to catch the clip and not distort it, I have been using them for 20 yrs, and they work great! the only thing you want to do is after drilling the 1/8 inch hole is touch it up!

CHRIS SILVA Nov 24th, 99, 03:58 PM One other thing, before you cut old studs off measure how far it is from the edge of the roof. Its very important otherwise you may never get you mouldings on or they will be too low.
1st & 2nd GENGuy Nov 24th, 99, 06:21 PM What company has the rivet tool and studs?
CHRIS SILVA Nov 26th, 99, 01:38 PM The companys name is marson they are located in chelsea ma.I will look up the number tommorow and post it.
CHRIS SILVA Nov 27th, 99, 03:11 PM hi there first and second, marsons is no longer in chelsea they have moved, that was a good idea if god was going to give the earth an enema chelsea is where the hose would go. Anyway I called 411 and got this number 781-344-4464 the are a large company so they will direct you to a local distributer. As far as the tool goes all it is a regular rivit gun and this end they sell screws on it the rivit is a stainless 1/8 inch with a very small collar. If you have no luck let me know. have fun!
1st & 2nd GENGuy Nov 27th, 99, 03:50 PM Thanks I will try them next week.
GEAR HEAD Dec 2nd, 99, 01:52 AM The way I delt with this problem was to bend the patch panel for area to be repaired, then I took nials with a head the same size as molding clip stud, ( a little grinding may be needed ), drill a hole in the patch panel were needed, insert nial, weld the back then cut nail lenth of with cut of wheel. This worked great for me, the molding clips fell into place and molding fit like a glove.
Good Luck.
CHRIS SILVA Dec 2nd, 99, 01:16 PM 1st and 2nd the part no.of that marson rivit tip is mar.39112. I have used these for 20 years. It's as easy as using a regular rivit gun. E-mail me if you have any problems.
CHRIS SILVA Dec 3rd, 99, 06:30 AM Hey There 1st. & 2nd, I got a new tip for my rivet gun. With rivets to do the windshield It came to 10.00.
