This is weird!
When I start the car, everything is functioning normally.
When I go to use the right or left blinker, all the gauges just drop to zero, including the tach on the steering column, and the blinkers don't work or make any sound at all.
The hazard lights work fine and all other lights work fine.

I took the car out last night to the store and the blinkers were fine. When I got out of the store and started on my way home, this all happened.

What does it sound like to you all?
I do know that the blinker switch is new, but I am baffled with this. I checked all grounds and bulbs and all is fine.

Obviously a short somewhere, but I don't know where to start looking.

Thanks for any and all help!

I'm sorry Click. I am so upset that I forgot to mention particulars.
It is a 1968 Camaro SS. The console gauges are round, not square, and I imagine there have been numerous modifications to this car. I sort of rescued it before it was going to be totally stripped and made into a bare drag racer.

I just did a lot of work on the steering column but all wiring looks fine. It just happened suddenly.

I also changed from an auto tranny to a 4 speed muncie so the console had to come out, but as I said, I have re-checked the wiring and all is fine. It has been working OK for about a month since all the work was done. The only other thing I recently did was buy a new grill so I had to disconnect the wiring that controls the front blinkers/parking lights but again, I have re-checked the wiring and all looks good.
One of the front blinker lights is new and the other is old and sort of hot-wired together but it all WAS working till last night.

You turn on the key and all gauges work. You go to make a turn and use your signal and you hear one quick sound as if the blinker was going to start blinking, then bam....no signal, no gauges.
I don't know where to turn from here

Im guessing 'ground' issue. Did you use star washers behind grounding screws? Most of the 'weird' elec. issues Ive read about in here were virtually always solved by re-grounding and in some cases, extra grounds. The 68 has a ground on the back of the dash cluster as well, if thats loose, it could be the issue. Chasing elec. is no fun.

Ground. Either the wires on the blinkers to the ground or more likely, the ground on the guages under the console, (the long black wire). That has to be grounded very well. I had mine kind of Micky Mouse'd and it did all sorts of weird things.

I had an issue with my console gauges in my '69. The little brackets on the back of the amp gauge that hold the wires on, somehow were touching causing a short. If by chance you were fooling near the console gauges, something my have been bumped or pulled causing a like issue.

Just a thought.

OK guys.
Thanks a million.
I was fooling around quite a bit near the gauges. It's just weird that it was fine for so long and now it isn't..
I'll check and re-check every step I took.
Thanks!
