I have a set of 462 reworked heads, that I will be installing on a 350 motor. Can I drill the passenger side head to support the installation of a alternator spacer bracket. I don't have the head in front of me, but I think there is a thick blank/boss there for a accessory port.

I'm going to have a auto machine shop either pin my rocker arm studs, or install threaded studs; so if possible I would have this accessory port drilled at the same time.

Thanks;

I have '461 heads and No, there isn't a boss there. I had mine drilled and tapped anyway, and it has been holding up for years... so far, so good.

TJS69;

You wouldn't have some measurements available for placing this drilled/tapped port by chance? If so would you mine sharing them.
Thanks;
John

Sorry, no measurements. I had my engine builder do it. Find a head with accessory holes and copy it or measure it.

Dont do it. I did on some 041 heads and i was sorry I did. Thier are many options for mounting an Alt without doing that. Just my .02.

There is a far easier way...
Get a piece of 3 or 5 mm plate
make a cardboard template
cut it so it mounts onto the 2 water pump bolts below the alterater..(use slightly longer water pump bolts)...and a bolt hole for the lower alternator mount.
...and u may even like to weld a nut on the back for the alternater mounting bolt
Now clean it up on the linisher, and send it off to be chromed or whatever.
Cost stuff all..time about an hr pottering around with a vice and file etc.

Mine has worked well for a few 100,000 miles and 20 yrs.
