View Full Version : To much fuel pressure?

Just installed an Edelbrock 1407 750 CFM 4 barrell on my 69 350 and it's gurggeling fuel from the D/S metering rod. So I called EB and they said to check the fuel pressure, apparently they will not function correctly with more than 6.5 PSI fuel pressure. Does that sound right to you guys? Has anybody else had this problem with a new EB carb? Thanks guys.

Yes, seems to be a fairly common problem. When you have too much fuel pressure, it forces the inlet off its seat and it isn't using the float to open it.

could you just get a fuel pressure regulator to fix your problem?

That's what EB suggested. I thought it was strange that it was only leaking on one side so I took it apart this afternoon and properly adjusted the float on the on the D/S and blew out some aluminum shavings from the body, works fine now. Thanks guys

It's a stock fuel pump. It's running alot better now that I'm getting closer to a good carb tune, it fired right up first turn of the key this morning but it still needs alittle tweaking.

with holley"s you can run close to 9 psi on center hung floats but only 6 or 7 psi on side hung stuff like 1850's, bigger floats hold more pressure on needle and seat, other carbs with small floats start leaking over 6 psi,

take out your needle and seat and wash every day before battle.

one tiny grain of junk on the new seat or needle and it has trouble stoppin fuel, even in the cleanest enviro the fuel line can get a demon in it, stock fuel pumps wont push past needle and seat, you may need to wash the needle and seat?

I took it out and cleaned it while I had the carb apart.

Edelbrock states 6psi max for the performer carbs. Actually they tell you to set you fuel pressure regulator to 5.5psi. Runs great at 5.5
