View Full Version : Where do the side markers go
mjthane27 Mar 14th, 08, 04:18 PM I own a 68 camaro convertible that I put new rear quarters on. The new quarters do not have the cut outs for the rear side markers. Can anyone tell me where to find the measurements to have them cut in, or give me those dimensions. Please email me at mthane@neo.rr.com. Thanks guys.
Pro-Street69Camaro468 Mar 14th, 08, 04:28 PM I was under the impression that 69 was the first year for side markers, look at mine...lol... I would do without if your on a no #'s matching car all they do is rust anyway MPO.I closed mine up...

thedugan Mar 14th, 08, 04:56 PM First -- welcome to the site
Second -- you should get your hands on the Assembly Manual. Will make life much easier.
Third -- Good luck with the car, you picked the best year and model, ragtops rule
Let me get mine out and if I can find the page that has the measurements Ill send it over to you

JimM Mar 14th, 08, 05:19 PM I don't think the AIM has the dimensions, the holes were all ready punched in the panels.
Some years ago, when I was painting mine, I asked the question and someone got me some measurements. Someone will chime in with real dimensions before too long.

Ghostbuster Mar 14th, 08, 07:00 PM Hi Mike.
I had to cut marker holes for the rear-qtrs on my '68 'vert.
I think the square cut-out was...
- 1.5" down from body line
- 7.5" from edge of bumper mount hole
I used my front marker cut-out to make a paper template.
Here's a pic,
I''ll double check my mearsurements and edit this post tomorrow..

Side markers were mandatory all cars had to have them in 68.
Also like what was said above if you are not building a numbers matching leave them off, I think cars look better without them anyway.

MT 68 conv Mar 15th, 08, 07:24 AM Sorry double on the post.
If someone can do the same for the front side marker lights I need those measurements also.
I will double check previous posts on the rear side marker ligts today. I have the old metal from when I replaced the quarters this winter.
Thanks
butternutz68 Mar 15th, 08, 10:21 AM This is front left 68 rs, I cut hole about 1/16 small so i could file to perfect fit.http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg306/kycamaroguy/th_LtFWDmarkerlight68RS.jpg (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg306/kycamaroguy/LtFWDmarkerlight68RS.jpg)

The old steel rear quarter panel that I removed measures 5" from the monting bolt hole to the hole for the marker light. It looks to be 1 1/2" below body line.
Hope that helps
blue89bird Mar 17th, 08, 06:54 PM I bought templates from ss396.com for them...I'm not sure if my body guy tossed them when he was done, but if I still have them, I'll toss em in an envelope and mail them to ya.
thanks for the front fender pic butternutz68...i've been looking for that for months.
