So, how many of you are going to rob a bank and buy one of these? $20,999 at Jegs. They're only supposed to make 427 of them too, so I bet that price will go up as they start to sell out, if they have not already. Luckily they're making a cast iron version for real people. About $8k from what I've seen. Still a whole lot a money, but I'm glad to see GM bringing it back to life.

Pace Performance, also has the engine listed for $21000 and available the end of April. below is the e-mail I sent to Dr. Jamie Meyer of GM Performance Parts and the response I got.

Jamie,
How can Jeg's be advertising these engines for sale and available the end of April. The GM Performance web site, update register has not sent out any information on how to buy one. For those of us that are seriously interested in buying one of these engines, this just doesn't sound right. Could you please inform me of the latest information.

Response:

Jeg's will not have these engines at the end of April.

We will be releasing detailed information on 4/27 on the site. Shipping will start likely in July.

My advise is to stay very close with your GMPP dealer.

Jamie

how can they even justify that kind of money?

Greed is the only justification for that price. It is very hard not to feel ripped off these days. I understand the limited edition factor will drive the price up but I hope it is a little more realistic. I guess we will have to wait until April 27th to find out the real story.

for half the money, i think i'd rather have the LS7 that they put in the new vettes.
same size, same power, smaller package.

Alluminum big blok engines run high teens easy. We just did a all aluminum 572 and it was nearly $20K. I have 3 coming and hoped they would be closer to $16K, but they are what they are, and there is quite a buz around for them as i have 2 of them already sold. the thrid might just go in my living room, LOL!

Id much rather have a built Carberated LSX 427 with almost 700 horse power on tap its a no-brainer and will be much cheaper than 20K.

Luckily they're making a cast iron version for real people.

Is this the engine in the "new" 69 Yenkos? If GM made a crate 427 that looked like a stock COPO engine, you could put me down for one today!

The only one I see in the catalog looks like a newer version, is that a Gen VI? (excuse my ignorance, I'm a small block guy trying to get the cure)

Hmmm. I'm reading where the ZL-1 one block has a two piece rear seal, and pictures of it show a mechanical fuel pump boss. Anyone know about the ZZ427 block?

Last ad I read said the compression is about 10:1. This engine is a mild 'driver', not a copy of an original fire-breather.

I'd take an original in a heartbeat, but the original COPO 427 engines were only 11:1 compression and 425 hp. With the roller cam and better heads, I suspect the new one puts out just as much horsepower if not more.
