Mark Rossiter Mar 15th, 08, 06:41 PM Chrome if your car has a console. Otherwise, I have only seen black NOS GM shifter knobs. I will say, I like the contrast of the white ones when the car has a black interior. bertfam Mar 15th, 08, 06:52 PM Ron, the Hrust shifter wasn't used in 68, so you can use anything you want really. However, if you want it to "appear" correct, like Mark said, Chrome for console cars and black/chrome (with the shift pattern on it) for non-console cars. (I'm also assuming you're referring to a 4 speed.) HERE'S (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/N-O-S-67-68-CAMARO-NOVA-CHEVELLE-SHIFTER-BALL_W0QQitemZ250224903750QQihZ015QQcategoryZ33736 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) one on ebay!! However, you won't be able to use that one on your Hurst shifter since the threads are different. 5/16" for the original "Muncie" shifter, and 3/8" for the Hurst. Rick's sells a 3/8" version of the ball and it's a LOT cheaper then the one on ebay (P/N CP-35) (http://www.rickscamaros.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=CP%2D35&dept%5Fid=3530)! Rick's also sells the Chrome ball in 3/8" for the Hurst shifter (P/N CP-49) (http://www.rickscamaros.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=CP%2D49&dept%5Fid=3530). Ed Badbird Mar 15th, 08, 06:58 PM I will say, I like the contrast of the white ones when the car has a black interior. Yes, my car is console equipped with a standard black interior.....I was hoping you would have said white because I also like the contrast with a black interior! Badbird Mar 15th, 08, 07:08 PM Ron, the Hrust shifter wasn't used in 68, so you can use anything you want really. Ed That's nice to know because I really like the white ball....I'm wondering now if the Hurst handle has 3/8" threads, are they coarse or fine threads:confused: Badbird Mar 15th, 08, 07:16 PM I like the black ball with the shift pattern on it.....It doesn't appear that the chrome ball has this shift pattern on it.....Is there an aftermarket white ball with the shift pattern on it, made for the Hurst shifter? bertfam Mar 15th, 08, 07:20 PM Ron, that's correct. The chrome ball won't have the shift pattern on it since the shift pattern was located on the console. I'm not sure if the Hurst is coarse or fine threads (I believe they are coarse), but again, Rick's has a white ball for the Hurst shifter (P/N CP-33) (http://www.rickscamaros.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=CP%2D33&dept%5Fid=3530). Ed Yes!.....Thanks Ed, that white ball, with the shift pattern, is exactly what I would want, seeing as though I don't have the original shifter, and not bad of a price either!:thumbsup: zdld17 Mar 15th, 08, 08:21 PM Most all factory Hurst levers i say were threaded with 3/8 x 16 thread |
